Drug / Individual Compatibility

Post by Grrrl »

In the knowledge that no-one is the same, especially regarding behaviour and mental patterns (thoughts, feelings, reactions), i have come to a theory, I am currently coming up on Baby Woodrose Seeds, however I aint mashed up yet, but if its a pile of wank forgive me, but here goes...

My theory is that individual differences within people's mentality have an efffect on how compatible a person is with certain recreational drugs. Let me explain, By compatibility I am referring to how the drug is recieved by a person, how much appreciation a person has for the effects. Some people aren't compatible with any drugs. Some don't even try n find out.

It is my suggestion that people with similar non-consciously controlled peronality traits / thought patterns will provoke similar emotion reactions and acceptances for certain recreational drugs. These people I would put into two rough categories of personality types; Submissive Personality's and Dominant Personality's.

Typical traits of a Submissive Personality would be; introverted, avoid situations involving conflict, laid back, non-confrontational, quiet, go-with-the-flow kind of people who tend to just roll with where ever life takes them.

Dominant Personality's tend to be more loud, fast paced, out-going, aggressive (I dont mean they go round communicating with fists n expletives, I mean with regards to their mannerisms), extroverted, don't-take-any-shit kind of people.

It is from my observations of people around me that as a general rule Submissive Personalitys tend to be drawn more to chilled drugs such as weed and more natural highs (eg Salvia and Shrooms). Whereas Dominant Personality's tend to be more attracted to alcohol and more chemical drugs (eg Pills, Coke, Speed). It is possible that this could be because it enhances parts of their personality that they already have and feel comfortable with. Non-drug takers have been excluded from my theory.

However there are exceptions to this rule and my explanation for this would be that there are some members of both Personality's that will rebel against their personality traits by using a recreational drug that is not typical of what is usually selected by other people of the same personality group. This maybe to achieve more balance and to tone down there personality. For example, Mr X is a dominant personality, but he may wish to tone down the fact he is so loud and face paced so he will choose to take a drug such as weed in order to achieve that balance in his personality. Also another explanation maybe that as you get older your personality will change, and as it does you may decide that the drug you are using is no longer compatible with your way of being. This may also explain why some people will skip between diferent drugs.

Also, there are people who will use drugs typical of both Submissive and Dominant Personality's. It is my proposal that these people may be in some kind of conflict with their personality or due to life experiences they may be in the midst of changing from one personality to another.

As you can tell this whole thing is still in the development stages right now, but I reckon I'm onto summat here. I'm not off my face and it makes pretty good sense to me so far, but I welcome any critisms or comments anyone would care to add... :) Apologises if it all blags your head or bored you.

respect

Have respect for the girl, dont treat her like shes some piece of meat. especially on a public forum! :x

I know exactly what you mean, i have studied for sometime now the affects of people and drugs and i have come across a certain pattern.

I believe the reasons + feelings of taking the drug are everything to do with the mental affects or other that it has on your body. The pattern i feel is:

The reason of escapism: 'very moody after affects and tense and looks like their in a world of their own'

The reason of enjoyment: 'nothing happens except for what appears to be happiness and a layed back outlook'

The reason of peer pressure: 'will dislike the drug but will take it with friends but doesnt enjoy the session'

i am mainly talking about the drug marijuana here... My reasons where escapism but then enjoyment and mainly peace, i never feel bad while smoking or after. Just a peace of mind.

Thankyou

Well i think that there are four groups of people smoking pot:

1) People who enjoy it. All those that like to relax by smoking some shit. They rarely smoke huge amount of weed but rather joint or two per day or week.

2) People who smoke to impress others. Well, most of those people friends don't smoke weed but he/she smokes weed to express their rebelious attitude. It's like "I smoke shit and don't give a f%^&".

3) People who smoke because it's part of being in a group. People who asocciate themselves with hip hop or reggae music are more likely to smoke weed than others.

4) People who smoke to get away from "real world". Let's just say that if you smoke to get away from problems give yourself a break.

I don't like to categorize people but i can sincerely say that it's like that in 75%. Of course people may change move from one group to another. For example someone may start smoking because of friends pressure but he may find it fun and he'll smoke few joints per month.

PS. Sorry for my english :P

I learned on early on that certain people like certain types of drugs (uppers, downers, psychedelics). It not only depends on their personality but also the reasons for their drug use. There are so many factors out there that, might lead someone to try drugs, that it's hard to accurately judge.

It's tough to categorize people especially when it comes to personality traits. Submissive/ Dominant is probably the the most you could narrow it down and still be accurate with what you said.

Very insightful and I agree alot with your theory. I'm not trying to hit on you but your mind is as beautiful as your sig.

Let's say i was right. So what are the main factors when talking about drugs?
1) Personality
2) Friends
3) Environment
4) Neural system/mind
5) Drugs availability

Can anyone name more of them?

Aren't you lovely :) The other factors I summed up into one category, life experiences. By this I mean different occurances in one's life that may shape or mould a person's views, thoughts and feelings and reactions to things. For example being bullied to me would be a life experience because if it hadn't happened it is my prediction that that person would be very different. Does that make sense? I feel that people's life experiences and how they are handled can also have an effect on which personality they turn out as too.

Yeah I agree with this theory completely. My friend who is always going from place to place loves cocaine---it's his favorite drug. I tried it a couple times and I didn't like the effects at all. I am what you described at a Submissive person and he is a Dominant one. I prefer pot and shrooms to cocaine and pills.

There is no doubt about that. A person's most influentual age is his/her childhood, when everything is learned. Along with an academic education, you also learn your first facts about life and how to handle it. Some kids have help dealing with situations, and some kids don't. All this effects how they will turn out when they are older.
I'm taking a child psychology class next year to learn more about this.
I think drugs have done some good things for us, and if you don't believe me, do me a favor. Go home tonight and burn all your albums, tapes, and cd's. Because the musicians who made all that great music...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs.

I did psychology for a while but the science bits threw me. Serves me right for getting high when i shouldve been in a science class. It's called high school for a reason though. :P It's really interesting though, I'm sure you'll enjoy it :) Look out for Freud, that man was a mentalist. :)

I could only agree with your insights, rasta, if you were referring to people who lack any sense of self control or intelligence. Now I agree for sure that the majority of humans lack both self control and self awareness, but able-minded people don't, unless they are suffering from some form of adversity, which is unfortunately common.

talking about humans more generally, I would have to disagree with your conclusions/suggestions. If a person is introvert/submissive then it doesn't make much sense(for that person) to use substances which increase their inward nature/focus, that is totally illogical. Why increase loneliness and disconnection with the waking world if you already have loneliness/desolation/disconnection???

I have a supemely dominant personality and because I know this, I steer clear of abusing substances which will increase the traits that are associated with a dominant personality. This is why I love weed, because it turns my gas mark 5 down to 1.

If a man is naturally(and yes I do believe that creatures have some rigid traits, though also some malleable) angry, irritable or prone to agression, only if his outlook is self-destruction or ignorance would that man consciously choose to play with Alcohol, meth or coke. Surely that man, if he wanted to 'escape' would opt for substances of a more calming nature, to get away from the way he feels naturally..

The reasons for drug use can't be distilled down into a handful of groups.

So, on reflection, no I don't think that personality type is the most influential factor when it comes to drug-use....Circumstance, for one, is much more directly responsible for drug choice/use.

(Wickedly worded, useful post, Rasta...Keep 'em coming)

You have a point there Animal, but do most people easily recognize their own personality traits and the traits that certain drugs enhance?
I know many people who always have trouble defining their own personality so they have others do it for them.
I think people choose their drugs for what they want to feel.
Some people want to forget, some people want to relax, some people want boosts of energy, some people just really want to get messed up.
I think drugs have done some good things for us, and if you don't believe me, do me a favor. Go home tonight and burn all your albums, tapes, and cd's. Because the musicians who made all that great music...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs.
