I admit, I was a little dubious of anything co-written and directed by Affleck. Much as I have liked him as an actor, in a handful of films, in fact, I would go as far to say that I have not seen him act badly, the move from Acting to Directing, is seldom natural and bountiful. Take Clit Eastwood for example...He has made some OK films, but none of them come close to the classics he was the star of, which were written and directed by others. Still...I was impressed with Afleck's efforts, both in front and behind the cameras. This story, which I am loathe to disect, out of a desire to do Benny boy proud, and encourage others to watch it, is shifting, exciting, emotive, interesting and ultimately satisfying...other than the end, which I could say about many other films that I have liked. The best I can muster, without ruining any suspence and thrills that the film itself conjures, is to outline its movements as : the story of a group of criminals, all well drawn and projected outwards from the screen, who get unfortunately too involved, with both their lifestyle and the unfortunates that through their lifestyle, sustains and maintains their vitality.

Re: the town
Great movie... On my long list of favorites.
I saw on TV today, this man lost his son, his son died...
So he had him cremated, took his ashes, and then made it into a Diamond ring...
Now he watches his son shine every day.
I just thought about that, while I sit here ashing in this ashtray...

I would have given it closer to a 7.5/10, but then again I don't catch too many flicks and I like anything relating to Boston.
