Im booking my ticket to Oz this week to spend xmas and new years there

I just need to know a few things:

I want to go to Melbourne, Im planning on moving there in the early part of next year so need to scout it out. Check how much Id need to live etc etc

but, I have to make it to Sydney to meet up with some old school friends for Xmas/New Year

What is the best and cheapest way to do this?

and if you are from Sydney or Melbourne, can you recommend me a clean cheap place to stay and where I can go to get weed and best places to drink my face off?

Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.
Chapel Street/ Greville Street, Prahran.
Church Road/Bridge Road/ Swan Street, Richmond.
Glenferrie road, Hawthorn.
City (Too many alleys and laneways to mention) but there are a ton of good places.

If you want more specific places let me know.

Budget Airline i would say...
Jetstar or Virgin Blue.

Where can you get weed? tougher... i always get it from mates...
but i would hazard a guess at being able to find it in Fitzroy/Brunswick area (more of a hippie/alternative area)

Scarf or scarface as is his off screen mates call him, in recognition of his powder habits and love of brutality, indeed has some differering opinions to me of the city and country we both call home...regardless of personal preferences, he has massively more experience of this place than me, and appears, perhaps, less eager to be consumed with bitterness and hatred, so follow his flow.

I like brunswick. not brunswick street, but sydney road in brunswick. Its a little dirty, some lovely pubs, decent bars, and cheap, varied restaurants. I find it more comfortable to be the token white guy in the street, rather than the token hobo in a street full of white sycophantic land sharks...which to me would be fitzroy. a place where people seem to dress UP and DOWn to be cool, but regardless of the direction of smartness of their attire, the snobbish spastic characters remain present...or maybe im paranoid.

chapel street in prahran is equally loathesome, except likely more chance of getting crunched for grimacing at a trio of morons, with the same haircuts, same clothes, same voices, same lines, who have stopped by the stairs in the swanky bar to compare their biceps and calf muscles, as the mutton dressed as lamb skanks nearby coooooooooo in awe and wanton prurience...well mutton dressed as lamb is a bit harsh, for melbourne has by far one of the highest amounts of delicious LOOKING ( NOT ACTING) women, of any city i have visited, let alone lived in. they are everywhere, like a fucking plague of locusts or loci...hohoohohoh!

The city, has some brilliant bars...my present favourite is a small bar near the parliament end of bourke street. but there are many, mainly tucked away in alleyways.

id steer clear of richmond, its full of scum, and oscar and me...we patrol the streets at night armed with axes and dictionaries...our motto is 'we educate as well as maime'.

Ive found a couple decent priced hostels, the areas they are in are St Kilda and one on Victoria Parade near Fitzroy

IF you guys know any specific hostels I can stay it would be great. Doesnt need to the be the Ritz, just a clean place to rest my head near establishments of alcohol

there is one right near fitzroy street in st kilda... is that the one you are talking about....
seeing as though its my hometown i really couldnt give you advice on hostels... never had to use them here haha...

but stkilda is another good place to head out... a pub called the esplanade is a good one...the espy for short...animal and i have met up there a couple of times for a beer
