How to format an old internal hard drive...

I am trying to format an old internal hard drive, with my more recent desktop, running windows 7...it doesnt seem able of completing the format, and only offers a suggestion of searching the Help feature for information regarding changing Read Only information...

Any ideas???

if you know what drive letter is assigned to the hard drive when you have it plugged in, then you could do it from the console.

start->programs and settings ->all programs->accessories->command prompt

type in format [drive letter]: , eg format d: . Be careful that you don't run the format command on the hard drive that windows 7 is installed on, which is most of the time c:.

any luck yet? from what i can tell from your vague description of the error it gave you, i'd say that it is a read error... it's saying it's read-only... it could be that the drive is damaged, or that there is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, possibly permissions.
