Matthew Simmons is Dead

By now you have probably heard the rumors. If not, here it is for you. Matt Simmons, prominent advocate of peak oil, writer, energy expert, BP opponent and suspected Gulf Oil Spill whistle blower is now dead.

Simmons founded the Ocean Energy Institute in 2007, hosting a grand opening of its new office last month in Rockland. The goal of the think tank and venture capital fund was to attract investment in research to make Maine a global leader in offshore wind and other ocean energy sources.

According to police reports, Simmons suffered a heart attack while in a hot tub at his home on North Haven. An autopsy is planned for today in Augusta, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

The cause of death was "accidental drowning with heart disease a contributing factor

I was only today telling someone at work that the problem with Oil, is not a lack of alternative fuels, to plug the gaps, that WILL come in Supply as resources diminish. The problem is that the oil corporations have such power that they can completely avoid anyone making noticeable waves, regarding the bell curve, regarding the FINITE nature of oil. This avoidance includes not only those scientists who design alternative possibilities to oil, but also those who speak to the world of the FINITE nature of a substance which incurs wars the world over, and will some day, decline decisively.

That story, Ziggy, is at best suspect. It reminds me of a chap called Gary Webb...of whose death the first reportsm, later changed, gave the reason for death as 'suicide delivered by two gunshot blows to the head'. TWO gunshot wounds to the head????? at point blank range???? Indeed.

That is very true Animal. These people (oil people) are so wealthy and powerful that they can silence anything they want. Which includes the death of this man, a huge opponent to them.
And I like that the 'suicide' of the man you were talking about, was due to TWO gunshots to the head. Very curious as to how that might work out, did his fingers twitch uncontrollably after the first gunshot and it just happned to be aimed at his head for the second. Its not even like their trying to hide the facts now. There That Powerful ! ! !

It does seem very suspicious.
I have little doubt that he didnt die of natural causes.. or if he did there was some foul play leading to it.
It just seems a little too coincidental

He sounds like a really good guy though, anyone who is a big enough thorn in the oil bastards foot, enough for them to kill you for it (if he really was killed) then, to me, that's, fucking epic!
