my first babies

i know part of this is in other topics because i was asking about growing questions, but i just wanted to start an offical log of my first time growing.

Here it is:


i am using a small storage closet. i have it split in two, one side for seeding stage and the other for flowering and growing.
on the seeding side i have 2 24" plant lights, fluorescent. on the other side i have a 150watt hps light, adjustable by cord.

in the center at the end i have two fans oscillating both plants for strengthening the plants.

i have created my own soil mixture and here is the start, 3 weeks ago.

i originally had 8 going. they all started off looking like this:


about a week later they started to drop and the stems were very weak and thin. 4 plants held in there while 4 other you could tell were beyond repair.
i had started them in tiny cardboard like pots. i transplanted the 4 best looking ones into bigger pots as you can see the 4 and 4

i was pretty sad, what happened was i over watered them, once i realized this last week i transplanted them into the bigger pots and didnt water them. its been a week and i still havent water them yet. since not watering them this is what they look like.

i also just planted another one the other day,water it once and havent since then, is fast
oh and the 4 that are big i just moved under the hps light because i figured since its 150watt hps they will grow better. was going to keep the 24/7 light schedule for another week then put them on 12/12












i want to transplant all plants i have now into a different soil, because i found out that miracle grow is a bad soil to use and im already getting nute burning, the yellow tips of some leaves. so can i transplant? i think i have to

Well heres an update:
i transplanted all of the plants into my new secret soil mixture with out miracle grow potting soil. i have a lil experiment going and thats with feeding.

in 1 of my 5 plants i am water with regular watering no extra food

in 2 of 5 i am watering with regular water and adding food like pellets that dissolve into the soil feeding the plants

and the last 2 of 5 plants i am giving water with food droplets for feeding.

id like to see which one grows faster and heals faster. then i will know for the future of these plants and the next ones to come.

okay i changed the setup one last time. i was told to put everything under the 150watt hps instead of splitting them like i had going so heres what it looks like now:

also, i heard at a certain time of the plants life youre supposed to trim leaves? is that true?

also i have some leaves that look like theyre dying or are dead, should i snip those off or no? look at pics above to see what im talking about

how old are they homeslice?

removing your fluero's and sticking them under the HPS was good advice,
had you started under the HPS right from the get go you would be way better off, IME flueros are useless
unless you're trying to root clones, they just dont provide the lumens to beef your babies up during those first few critical weeks.
growing in a closet with no air exchange will present some challenges down the road when you flip to 12/12, i would recommend you start using some preventative measures to protect against powdery mildew and other nasty fungus, always think prevent rather than treat. the ultimate solution would be adding a small exhaust fan to circulate stale air out of the room, in a small space you dont need an expensive one. there's nothing worse than waiting months and pouring money into dirt only to have your whole crop destroyed in 2 days by mold, youll never regret the purchase.

anything miracle gro is crap, the potting soil is way too hot for seedlings, thats why your leaves are burning.
before you next transplant the biggest favor you could do your plants is giving them a proper soil mix and better food. try to find Sunshine Mix#4 , or ProMix BX.
a fail proof soil mix i use right to the bitter end (right through flowering) is 50% SunshineMix, 50% Coco Coir, Earthworm castings and dolomite lime, and then you feed as usual.
the pelletized food youre using is not ideal for cannabis, especially not indoors. time release nutes like that are common in outdoor growing where people cant be on site every day, but even then they are just ammendments and do not fill every nutrient gap specific to cannabis.
invest in a proven liquid nutrient line where you can actually adjust the feedings to meet the needs of your plants. ie FloraNova, PureBlendPro...etc...etc..

leaves really shouldnt be dieing on plants this small, but if they are, yes, remove them.

as for trimming leaves, i would only do so if your fan leaves are restricting light from reaching your bud sites, but generally i only remove leaves from the bottom of the plants and only when they start yellowing.

ah so those are almost a month old..?
i went and pulled a plant out of my veg room to snap a pic for you because they're almost the same age,
these beans were popped on May 1st so not quite a month old.

yes they are about to be 2 weeks old. my gauges in the closet read, 51% humidity which is stilll good an 81 degrees F.

yes i am very mad that i used fluros for the beginning because well i just didnt know any better. im going to return the fluros and get another hps light.

the hps light i have now is for an outdoor light fixture, its not a hps growing light. the only difference is the way it looks.

should i take back both light fixtures i have now and just buy one 400hps watt light?
should i still do the 24/7 lighting also, when do i need to switch to 12/12?

also about ventilation, so i should get a fan and just place it in front of the door and turn it on for like a few hours and do that everynow and then so i can get hot air out?


in about a week im going to buy super silver haze all females instead of the white widow thats growing now and im going to have them under constant light

Your temps and humidity levels are fine, but expect both to rise as your plants get bigger. If youre at 81F i would not recommend putting a 400w in there without any air exhaust, temps in my flower rooms run at 79F lights on, 77F lights off. There's little variation because the room is partitioned and its on a flop, 3000 watts on each side, as soon as one side turns off the other turns on.

Complications arise when figuring out your exhaust in a closet cause you want to keep it light proof, meaning no outside light is entering the room when your lights are off. You can get away with an unsealed room when youre running 24/0,but once you try to get them used to a regular photoperiod (20/4, 18/6, 12/12), a light leak will stress your plants and increase your chances of growing some dank hermaphrodites that crackle and pop with seeds every time you spark up, not cool.

Can you cut a 6"hole in the ceiling drywall to exhaust your air? Buy a cheap circular intake fan and a small amount of 6"ducting and go to town. That would be a simple solution, if youre renting its not likely your landlords will notice a small hole in the ceiling of a closet when you leave, or if you got drywall skills you could patch it.

i swear by 18/6 in veg, i have no scientific backup but i believe the plants appreciate the dark period. it makes sense when you look at the most basic principles of photosynthesis but there are plenty of people who have success under 24/0. If nothing else it will save you a little on your hydro bill.


You can switch to 12/12 whenever you want, depending on how much you want to harvest. If you were to flip to 12/12 right now, it would not be a very bountiful harvest. A general rule of thumb is that plants will double in size during the first 2 weeks of flowering. I would wait til your plants are at least 10-12" tall to flip em and try to get a better light with a reflector.


One last thing, i wouldnt recommend SSH unless youre in the Cali market and have access to the oldsog SSH cutting. SSH is a sativa dominant strain and some phenotypes will take upwards of 12 weeks to finish flowering. Not only does it suck to wait that long but it also leaves more time and opportunity for something to go wrong. Personally i think seed banks are a bunch of fraudulent fucks but if the internet is your only option in terms of obtaining genetics Id go here ......http://www.hempdepot.ca/other/aprices.h ... .......and get something novice friendly from TGA , Federation, Joey Weed, or Reeferman, the rest are lieing, exaggerative bean pushing self hyping dutch douchebags who still think the Netherlands are growing better weed than the rest of the world. IMO.
