Wisdom Teeth.

Have any of you had them removed?? (before they came in or after) How bad was it?
I never understood the point of removing them before they grew in. hm.

also I recently had a tooth removed but it wasnt a wisdom tooth.

I think the reason you remove them is because they start to push on all the other teeth and can cause problems.

Joe is right about the pushing and crowding of the rest of your teeth. Some people have plenty of room in their mouth for those extra teeth (like my dentist said I did) and there is no need to remove them unless they present problems in the future. Another reason a dentist might remove your wisom teeth before they fully poke through your gums could be he detected through X-rays that those teeth were already rotting away.

I had my wisdom teeth until I was 33 years old. I had to get them removed because 3 out of the 4 eventually rotted away. One of them had been a full tooth that broke again and again over the years until it was nothing left but a flat hard surface just flush with my gumline. Any longer and it would have become impacted...not fun.

Once I had my full dental coverage, I made the appointment to get them removed. I was told I could have them removed under general freezing, freezing accompanied by some drug through an IV in the crook of your elbow (never did remember to ask what the drug was), or I could go completely under anethesia and get knocked out. I went with the IV drugs since I'm so comfortable with shooting heroin.

Whatever traquilizers they give you in that IV are AMAZING, to say the least! You remain fully concious and can understand what people are saying to you, and you can respond back, but it feels like you're in a dream or something. The nurse said to me after the IV was inserted in my arm, "Okay, I'm giving you your first dose now, and you should feel it pretty quick." And I looked over to watch her inject something into my IV and I laughed a little and said, "Nahhh..." as if to say, "Pfft, this is nothing."

WELL! It DOES hit you immediately! It made me feel like I melted into the chair and my eyes felt closed but they weren't. Everything was also quite hazy or blurry and people's voices sounded far away...like a dream. I could watch the doctor removing my teeth and stitching me up and I didn't give a good god damn. He could have pulled ALL of my teeth and I wouldn't have noticed.

The only things I clearly remember about the procedure was the doctor telling me while gripping my tooth with some metal instrument, "Okay Keith, you're going to hear a cracking noise in your head." I smiled, looked him right in the eyes and gave a huge thumbs up, as if to say, "OOOH YEAH! CRACK MY SKULL IN HALF!!" The other thing that sticks out in my memory was how amazingly LONG the thread looked as he was stitching my gums closed. It was the drugs warping my senses into thinking the doctor's hand was touching the office's ceiling as he drew the needle back from my face. That made me smile again.

Once all 4 teeth were out and I was stitched, the nurse stopped my drugs. As quickly I entered my haze, I exited back into reality. I felt a little groggy but I was out of the chair in less than 5 minutes after the drugs wore off. They make you sit in a private waiting room for a good 20 minutes to get your wits about you and to check for any unusual bleeding and then they send you home with a prescription for Tylenol 3...which in my opinion were garbage. I stuck to smoking weed to help numb the pain...even though you aren't supposed to smoke.

I didn't eat much at all for the first 2 days I had them out. Pudding, ice cream, warm (not hot) soup. Then I worked my way up to bread, crackers, etc. The worst pain I had was just opening and closing my mouth. The actual areas where the teeth came out didn't hurt much at all!

Are you getting your wisdom teeth out soon, Waffles? If you do and you have the option for an IV in your arm, I'd definitely recommend it!!!!

I still need to get my wisdom teeth out but MAN this shite hurts like a mofo.
I woke up with worse pain than I had before with my other tooth that got removed.
For some strange reason I couldnt feel my wisdom teeth hurting because my other tooth was in so much pain... but now that it's gone it's like the wisdom teeth have stepped up to fuck shit up in my mouth. MOTHERFUCKERS!

And I hate needles.... so much. So IV will not be an option... EVER!
So recently I have been smoking much much more than I usually do to get rid of the discomfort... although I still feel it even when high. And painkillers go through me really fast.

Recently... I've been getting really bad headaches. I thought at 1st that it's from the lack of sleep, but then I tried getting more sleep and was fully awake and functioning and still had a terrible headache. So I'm guessing it's the teeth...(if that's even possible)

You can't even just look away while it's being inserted? It's only a long, thin piece of metal JABBING out of a PULSING VEIN in your little arm.



Sorry, that's pretty mean of me. No matter what option they give you, you're going to get some form of a needle. Unless your dentist uses gas. I still say be brave and get that IV thing. I honestly asked the nurse when I came to, "Hey, if I didn't finish all my drugs, can I take the rest home with me...WOW!" And she laughed but said, "No, sorry." That made me a little sad inside.

If your dentist recommends getting them out, I'd say do it now and forget putting it off. Hopefully you have insurance. If I didn't have insurance, it would have cost me $1,100 and I paid $110.

my dentist does gas. I'll go with that... before the needle. Needle freak me out to the max. Actually I passed out once from getting a shot. But the lady was stupid, she shoved it in once, said wrong spot, took it out and shoved back in again... and I was fine until everything was done and taken care of, and when she said I could get up and go, I got up and passed out. But then they gave me a cookie. lol

My wisdom teeth have been lying dormant all my life. I hope against all hope that they will remain that way forever, because they are, what I believe is called "impacted". And I will sure as shit be in for a world of pain until they are removed. My X-rays are almost identical to this...

yea the Dentist reccomended me take them out just in case, so we went to the other guy and he was a fuckin prick and wanted to charge me 5 grand to take them out.

so i was like, dude... fuck you im not paying that much for something ill probably never have to worry about.

^ yea it was fucked. my teeth are fully in now and the Dentist said that they could still fuck up which doesnt make sense to me since i have the teeth of a god compared to everyone in my family.
