SPOKANE -- Thursday morning Spokane Police arrested a drug dealer who they believe has been selling marijuana-laden Rice Krispy Treats to Shadle Park High School Students. KXLY4's McKay Allen reports.

Kruz Hawkins, 20, was arrested in a parking lot near the high school Thursday morning by members of the Special Investigations Unit. Police say he was preparing to sell the treats to several students standing nearby and that he sold to several students every day who would then take them back to school and consume them on campus.

"Clearly they can't light up a joint at school," Spokane Poilce Officer Jennifer DeRuwe said. "So they're eating their treats back at school."

Detectives also executed a search warrant at his dad Ricky Hawkins’ home at 2307 W. Crown where Kruz lives. In the home police found more marijuana and more baked goods.

"He'd sell the marijuana in the cookies, or brownies, or Rice Krispy treats. Whatever he could to conceal the marijuana," DeRuwe said.

Ricky Hawkins was arrested for knowingly allowing his son to sell drugs from his home.

The arrests of Kruz and his dad came after a combined surveillance and undercover operation in and around Shadle Park High School that focused on the sales of drugs in the neighborhood near the school.

Police say both Ricky and Kruz Hawkins have medical marijuana licenses but those licenses certainly do not authorize selling marijuana Rice Krispy treats to high school students.

I want some Rice Crispy squares right now! You know what'd be good? Putting a few tablespoons of peanut butter in with the marshmallows while they're melting in the pot. OOOOOH! And melting down a Dairy Milk bar in the microwave to drizzle on top of the squares!
