Ugh

Post by Ikku »

OK, so a couple days ago I come home late from work stoned out of my mind and my parents confront me about it, they basically knew where I was and what I had been doing. So they took my car, and for a couple days took my computer, but I have one of those back now. Now they're trying to get me to stop hanging out with my friends who smoke.

They're against pot for purely legal reasons, my dad keeps saying "That path only leads to a jail cell" and he keeps telling me stories of the various nights he spent in jail because of pot. He was mad because I lied about it to them, but he said that he himself lied to his parents about it. It seems like everything he says is hypocritical, but I know he's just trying to keep me out of trouble.

But I decided that this was what I wanted, and I don't think my parents can rightfully tell me who I can and can't hang out with. I think that it's entirely up to me who my friends are and my parents should just leave it alone. Now my mom's talking about not letting me move out next year (as if she would be able to stop me) and I don't know what to do about keeping my friends. My parents say that I won't get my car back until I stop talking to my friends, but I don't see that happening. But without my car, I can't really go out and be with them, so it's kind of a paradox. The only way I can get my car is by losing my friends, and the only way I can be with my friends is if I get my car.

Beginning of the summer too, what terrible timing. If I hadn't been caught this week, I probably would have easily made it through the summer, but it's too late now. This whole situation sucks balls.

Tell them to stop acting stupid, you're their son why the hell would pot lead you to jail?

Furthermore tell them the only way to be with friends is by car, do they want to deprive you from your social life?
Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

That sounds almost exactly like the situation at my house but it's only 2 friends that I can't really hang out with.

My dad still has the mindset of 20-30 years ago when marijuana laws were way harsher, and that's the only point of view he can see it from. He's said that if I keep hanging out with people that do it then he'll just straight up kick me out of the house. I dunno, that might be a good thing.

And yes, they want to deprive me of my social life because they don't like my social life. I've been trying to make them realize that it doesn't matter if they like it, it matters that I like it. I was telling them that I make really good grades, my SAT scores were outstanding, and that I think I'm smart enough to make my own choices, especially about my own friends and life. But they keep saying that I made "wrong" or "bad" choices, as if their standards of morality were absolute. But what they consider a "bad" choice is MY LIFE and really none of their concern.

My mom is a hardcore Catholic, and it's hard to get people like that to ever see something from someone else's point of view.

Yea...arnt' you 18? (if I remember correctly)...They shouldn't be able to tell you when you can and cannot move out lol. You're a fucking adult, and every descision you make by now is an age appropriate desciscion. (sp?). If things get too outta hand, I'd just go ahead and move out right now.

ah man that bites so badly :/ I mean hardcore Catholic, there, you said it, those people have only one way of seeing things: their way (no offense to your mom).

All I can say in that case is brace yourself for a while of non-smoking,get studying and make sure you get a good job and move out asap

No I'm not 18 until next year.

The biggest bullshit about it is that I do have a good job, I have good grades, really everything is going great for me. My older brother, who doesn't smoke or do anything bad, was not motivated enough to get a job. And they're trying to tell me that my "path" is leading nowhere. Fuck them.

why don't you tell them that? just say that your life is more on track than your older bro who doesn't even smoke weed.

just keep trying to prove that weed doesnt, hasnt and wont affect your grades or jobs or your life in general in any negative way. if you can do that and get them to agree with you, you win.

goodluck

Well I plan on talking to my mom alone soon, when my dad's in the conversation it can be rather intimidating. Although maybe that's because the times I talked to them about it I was high, I dunno. But I'll be going to my mom sober to try to convince her that weed isn't that bad and that I can handle my own life.

Well I talked to my mom and I think I've convinced her, but she says she won't approve. She doesn't approve of the people I hang out with mostly. She says that it's all up to my dad when I get my car back and if I can smoke. Talking to my mom was the easy part, I think it might be a bit harder convincing my dad, but I'm gonna give it a shot probably tomorrow.

I'm going to smoke whether they like it/allow it, right now it's all about getting my car. My friend is going to stop by tomorrow with the HP that I was going to go in on with him (we were going to start selling together but I wasn't able to get with him when he got it) and I'm buying a half O, so I'll probably be getting high tomorrow. Next time he gets a HP I'm going to more than likely go with him and split it, just to make a little cash from selling to friends, definitely not going to tell the parents I'm selling though (one of my strongest arguments against the "oh you'll go to jail" is that police aren't looking for kids smoking in their homes, they're looking for people smuggling, growing, or selling).

The future looks a little better, but talking to my dad is going to be the hard part.

good luck man, ive had the talk with my dad, and he says the same shit about the legality, so i tell him that when i do smoke(they dont know how much i smoke) i only do it at peoples houses, so i cant get busted( in reallity, i smoke anywhere, all the time), so try that on him, tell him that you know the consequences, and you take propor action against it.

Okay so before I can even talk to my dad, my mom comes back and says I can't smoke. I printed out a sheet of myths/facts yesterday and gave them to her and even though she said she believed it, today she went to the NIDA website (wtf, a government prohibition website, great unbiased source eh?) and said it told her the opposite of what I told her. And despite the fact that I am smarter than her, she doesn't like smoking and I'm not allowed to do it.

I was never allowed to do it in the first place, I just need to get my car back and go back to hiding it like I used to. It's going to be harder with all the extra suspicion, I'll just have to keep deodorant and Visine in my car. If my eyes are clear and I don't smell too much, they'll never know. The eyes were what gave it away to begin with.

I just wish she could have been more open minded.
