alright so i went out for supper tonight for my moms bday, and i stole the top of a salt shaker, the little metal piece.. it has the holes in it and all, so i hope it works as a bowl; just gotta clean it out like crazy.. its all greasy and salty

congrats. i find a good working bowl is always the hardest part of making your own bong. that or the spout that attaches to the bowl if thats how ur gonna make it.

when i made a bong, tho mine wasnt proffesional, it was just about 10-ish 2l bottles stuck together.
i just cut a peice of copper pipin for the downpipe, and i used bottle cap for the bowl (a metal one - duh, lol) and i just poked a load of holes in the bottom, i learnt that these where also very useful with lungs, so i ended up makin loads for all the lungs i spawned (and cos my mates kept nicking the things) i later decided (cos i kept loosing weed thru the holes) to just, cut out most of the bottom, cept for a little ridge, n then i put a pipe mesh/guaze (wateva u call em) in it, n that works real well to

I use a socket with a faucet screen. Killer combo. It will fit into most anything if you have the right size socket.

k i came to the conclusion that i'm gunna use a sobe bottle, which i'll hopefully get tomorrow.. i just need an idea for a shaft. i want something sturdy (ie: pvc piping, metal tube of sorts), rather than flimsy (sp?) rubber/plastic (ie: hose)

also i have that bowl like i said, a salt shaker cap..

just one question guys, when u pack a bowl, do u just put the bud in? or do u have to grind it and whatnot and pack it tight?
cause im thinking if ya gotta grind it, i might lose some through the holes (not worried about losing the minuscule amount i would, just it'd be annoying if it kept falling through loll).. should i put a piece of something there? screen or something?

I usually break the bud up a little, enough to give it some good surface area to burn. I've seen people put big nugs in, but that always leaves me with a chunk of weed charred on the outside and the rest won't burn very well.

The holes in a salt shaker lid already function as a screen unless those holes are really huge, so you should be able to just load it up.
