The Stand
Wow... I mean wow, Stephen King has proven himself (to me anyways) to be one of the greatest Novelists of our time. Im not a horror junky, Wether it be a book or movie so I was slightly skeptical when it was recomended to me by a friend, but I think it may very well be one of the best works of fiction ever written. Its considered Sci-Fi, however I have come to disagree with that, a Sci-fi is supposed to be about something completley unbeilevable (however I could very well be wrong and if so just point it out and call me a douche.) Anyhow, the book starts with the American government creating a super-flu virus, which leaks, and within the timespan of a few weeks 99.4% of the popluation os dead, I dont really consider that Sci-Fi I consider it a very real possibility, if not an inevitability (I beileve that the curse of all sentient beings may very well be to eventually destroy themselves through their own knowledge.) So, the book is really about the afterwards, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world where Doctors, Electricians, and Pilots are worth their (along with their mothers) weight in gold.It is also a classic battle between good and eveil as groups of survivors band together to form communities. But the true greatness of this book is really the depthness of the characters (Of course King had plenty of time to really bring them to life throughout the 1151 page book.) Ah well, I seemed to have once again forgotten where I was going with this... I really do have a bad case of diarreah of the mouth.

This is a real good book, probably one of his best. Other favorites of mine by him are Storm Of The Century, It (The book not the movie...the movie was mediocre...), The Shining (I'm still scared to walk down a long empty hotel hallway because of this movie/book...those are some creepy twins), Cujo, Salem's Lot (My mom has never been able to finish this movie since it came out because she get so scared lol...she's tried so many times for like 15 years...one day i'm sure she'll do it lol), and Misery was pretty cool, wasn't really scary or anything, but i like how it shows how weird some people really are

Re: The Stand
Sci-fi is about a fantasy world where science or something similiar is what allows the stories to be somewhat believable in terms of possiblity. If the story was so out of reality that science, as we know it, cant explain the events then it is just fictionPuffPuffGive wrote:Sci-fi is supposed to be about something completley unbeilevable
