Anarchism
As this is a site made for and by stoners I would assume that many of you have problems with the current goverments laws. I live in America so I can only speak for my own goverment but I find that the only way to make it in american politics is to do what gets the most votes and not what is right.
Different people see different things as right or wrong. This why I am a believer in Anarchism. If there is no power then there can be no abuse of power. Anarchism is a doctrine urging the abolition of government or governmental restraint as the indispensable condition for full social and political liberty.
My question is do you think that if the goverment dissapeared tomorrow would things change that much? would society cease to function?
I think the only difference is that fica would no longer take a portion of your money, cops would no longer harras you for smoking the marijuana and the goverment could no longer fight unjust wars on the otherside of the world.

Re: Anarchism
Ask Iraqis. Would you want to live in the anarchy they live? haaaaa no. Anarchism is a short-thoughted system of society, Anarchism is a kind of idea that has a nice utopia feeling, but looking more into it...noooo...Humans are too much like animals still..bobdole wrote:My question is do you think that if the goverment dissapeared tomorrow would things change that much? would society cease to function?

We're too set in our ways. If the American governement or the Canadian government disappeared, we would just elect new ones.
We have never gone without a leader and I don't think we ever will. It's in our instinct.
Any creature that lives in groups...( and as humans, it's hard NOT to) will have leaders...the Alpha couple of wolves, chimps, gorillas, lions, the united states...
Even if there isn't necessarily a designated alpha (birds perhaps? I don't dare pretend I did well in Biology) there's still a pecking order, where the strongest will have their way.
I think there would be mass panic until a new leadership was formed...if only because the government runs everything that keeps order...cops, court systems, prisons, schools etc etc :O

If there is no power, there is nothing.
The govt may have some bullshit laws that everybody likes to whine about, but remember that if werent for them we wouldn't have any of the good things either. Somalia is an anarchist country and it's the poorest, most fucked up country on the planet, there is no control. you think iraq is pretty extreme and problematic? Think again.
Think, if everybody could whatever they wanted the world would be a really shitty place to be in. And yes, if the govt just left us society would cease to function. Theres a hell of a lot more to it then ''we could smoke weed without the cops harassing us, and no taxes.". LOL.
we wouldnt have the resources to go to war with other countries, but there sure would be one hell of a war in our own country among our own people. Inevitable and unstoppable.

haha, without a govt we'd step back thousands of years in development. people would be living in clans, there would be no official currency or anything so we'd have to be totally self sufficient like our ancestors many generations ago. or like animals. but yeah, we could definitely smoke all the weed we want hassle free. until some starving, crazy fucker decides he's gonna hack you up with machete and cook up your remains for a few meals. doesnt matter, he wont get in trouble for it, and you were RIGHT THERE, vulnerable and a far easier target then most other species around.
and wait, how would we grow high quality weed when theres no electricity or anything you can use to grow it other then the dirt on the ground? where would we find a butane lighter to smoke it? oh yeah, there is no govt or corporations to make some or any currency to get imports from another country.
oh well, you can always rub sticks together with your clan members and hope for the best.
any remaining resources we have in the country right now... once theyre gone theyre gone. and they will be depleted/stolen/rotten/useless very soon after anarchy is instated.
edit: cant capitalize my sentences right now, shift and capslock are both really fucked up on my keyboard.

anarchy would not happen, there must be some chain of power. even if there was no government, somebody, or some chair of people would still be in control. Human beings can't function together without an order or command, and it would driveitself to destruction. if there was a completley free market, sure you would be able to smoke and buy marijuana, and other drugs, but there would be no healthcare, or education, and you probarbly wouldnt be sitting on a computer, posting arnarchistic threads on an online stoner community.

So what your saying if 51 % of the population wants to ban smoking in a bar then you'd let that happen. How about NO. Let there be property rights, and people deciding what goes on on it. You don't need silly laws restricting that kinda crap just because people want that. If someone tried something violent then they would obviously be put away, but I'm sorry. Democracy isnt REALLY the way. Sovereignty is.

No ones saying that they totally support the government as it is, but just totally going against it and saying anarchy would be better is stupid. We should work with (against) it to finetune it to our likings rather then just sit on our asses bitching and moaning about it. Theres people who are totally anti-govt and ironically they're totally reliant on it. There's so many stoners who will whine about the drug laws yet they dont do a hell of a lot about it.m3tal wrote:So what your saying if 51 % of the population wants to ban smoking in a bar then you'd let that happen. Seriously, I think that if anyone really wants to change things for real they should use the govt to their advantage. Not just blow it off and avoid anything that has to do with it. Hate your political leaders now? Become one! Get on the inside and make some real changes. Imagine if a bunch of well put together stoners worked really hard and became the leaders of our country.
I hate the govt too, but anarchy is just dumb. To any Canadians of voting age on this site, vote democrat next election. They wanna legalize.

Democracy worked when everyone wasn't crooked. Monarchy worked in my country for several thousand years. Its only when ignorant fuckers like oliver cromwell come along, that things go pearshaped.m3tal wrote:So what your saying if 51 % of the population wants to ban smoking in a bar then you'd let that happen. Re: Anarchism
I think the many of the world's woes, of humanity's woes, originate from this idea that humans are in fact superior or seperate from animals. We are ANIMALS. All of us. Part of the many problems we face as human beings come from this misconception of seperation and superiority.chrisisonfire wrote:Humans are too much like animals still..
I have grown to hate that derogatory saying 'you are no better than an animal'. That is an insult to the non-human world. The non-human creatures I have interacted with so far in my life have given me the definite impression that humans are the ones lacking civility, lacking morality, lacking the intelligence that so many of us assume we have as right of species.
As for anarchism...I strongly advocate the toppling of the Western governments and a descent into chaos. I see it as the only chance for the Earth to survive and prosper. Why? Because for too long have scum ruled the planet. Scum which callously rapes and pillages the earth and it's creatures until they are exhausted. Scum which gives more value to power than morality, success over civility, selfishness over altruism. We need to go back to our caveman hunter gatherer roots. The sooner the better. And there is no way of doing that without either a combined global effort to destroy all the systems we have instigated or a nuclear holocaust. The latter seems more likely with the current crop of despotic leaders with their fingers always near the 'FIRE' button on their nuclear consoles.
