Danish Embassies worldwide have been targeted by crazed mobs bearing guns/knifes/axes and even their teeth. Other nations which have allowed the offending pictures to be printed, have sustained similar attacks to their embassies on foreign soil. Travel advice is been revised by many European governments who fear a backlash aimed at tourists. Disgust was shown in force by demonstrations in Afghanistan, Somalia, Uk, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, and yeh, pretty much every country which homes any Muslim groups.
some reaction to these cartoons is understandable, but the grievous nature of the general message coming from the most vociferous demonstrators is frankly disturbing and worrying.

My knowledge of the Koran doesn’t allow me much leeway for considering those words, but I find it hard to believe that any religion could demand the heads of non-believers/blasphemers, so I must assume that the al-Muhajiroun group are perhaps a little over-enthusiastic with their interpretation of the holy text, like some others..
This idea of decapitating blasphemers is a new one to me, and I’m hopeful that no laws enforcing that kind of fucked up disciplinary measure are ever allowed to come into play during my lifetime, in any country where I happen to end up living. But, now I’m thinking, there must be some Islamic states which adopt that type of punishment system. I guess if a man strongly believes in such ridiculous(to me) rules then he should take residence in a country which adopts his beliefs as LAW; why stay in a system which is run by people who don’t agree with your idea of right and wrong?
Anyway, no sooner had the world erupted into a hellish display of animosity between Muslims of various levels of fanaticism and the West, than our old comrades Iran, entered the fray with a retaliatory satirical attack on the holocaust, or ‘myth’ as the increasingly vulgar Ahmadinejad calls it.
Speaking of the worlds current ‘bad boys’. Upon hearing of their official referral to the Un security council (for failure to assuage major UN member’s fears of the recommencement of Iranian nuclear weapons research/production) , Iran responded by further restricting nuclear watchdog (IAEA)visits to their nuclear plants, dissolving an agreement to suspend uranium enrichment and placing restraints upon the sale of US goods in Iran. Very heavy moves all round really, none which lead me to develop my weak hopes for a peaceful conclusion to the impending standoff between Ahmadinejad and the UN security council….
I was under the impression that before any decisions were to be made(like economic sanctions and/or bombs/air strikes), the militant wing of the UN would wait to receive a second report on Iran’s nuclear status. However, it seems that notion has become void. So now what?
Well to start with we still have the Russian offer of a shared nuclear venture (based on Russian soil), which should be discussed on February 16th. There is nothing to suggest anything positive will come from that head2head debate, but we can hope………If all goes wrong, the IAEA meet again on March 6th, to potentially decide what action to take against the country whose leader says

Chen Guangcheng, a blind Chinese legal activist, remains under ‘house arrest’ in Dongshigu village(China) despite the authorities(holding him)complete lack of any charges/justification. The blind Chen was leading the fight against the seriously brutal methods employed by the fearsome ‘Family Planning Commission’ to enforce the ‘one child’ policy, which was designed to halt the previous levels of uncontrolled people growth. These ‘methods’ include forced sterilization, forced termination (of unborn babies) and the beating/detention of related family members.(for good measure?)
Rather than address the obvious social sickness, the Chinese government feel it is more beneficial (to whom?) to keep poor old Chen, locked up in his little cabin, under 24 hour guard, with no connection to the outside world like TV/phone/post, only his captors. A group of lawyers who attempted a clandestine visit to Chen’s rural makeshift prison, were rebuffed by the official guards, then chased out of town and beaten down with sticks…

Troubled voodoo nation Haiti has finally(after a few postponements caused by crazy violence i.e. one candidate was murdered)completed their much needed elections. It is hoped the results will attach a competent/popular leader to the helm of the sinking Haitian ship, with a 129 strong cabinet of hardcore pirates and sailors for back-up. Despite the deaths pre and during the polls, there seems an encouraging underlying sense of hope from the natives who for so long have known only hardship/chaos.
Nearby Costa Rica, also in the midst of their own democratic electoral process, face the nail biting prospect of a recount after 1987 Nobel peace prize winner, Oscar Arias, appeared tied(on votes, not rope/leash) with main adversary, Otton Solis. It seems the most important issue that divides these two men, is Costa Rica’s intended ratification of Central American Free Trade Agreement, which could either help eradicate the growing poverty issues or make matters much worse.
As my understanding grows of CAFTA, I am seeing a dark side to their strategies/free trade ideals. It isn’t as simple as ‘these groups do what’s best for its members’ as it should be.
