Overgrow.com owner arrested, computer / drugs seized in raid

In the beginning, it was said to be server problems. Then it was rumors of arrests. Now there's confirmation.

ShoutWire was the first source to cover this story with enough detail to 'connect the dots' for the masses.

Police raided the home of Canadian resident Richard Boucher, owner of the popular marijuana website Overgrow.com on Thursday. He was arrested and charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance with the purpose of trafficking.

If you are not familiar with overgrow.com, it is one of the largest marijuana websites on the net. It also has one of the biggest communities of growers anywhere. Add to that the fact that police are rumored to have seized computer components and you can see why this might have some people sweating a little bit more than usual.

An anonymous member of OG was quoted as saying “Man, I’d go nowhere near that site”. A webmaster of a related site that was said to be close to the individuals has posted on his own site, “be warned guys and do what you need to do to make it safer for all of you ... duck and cover if needs be.”

While it is not exactly clear whether or not information will be taken from the computers and used to bring charges against others, it is a very definite possibility and has got some folks on edge.

“I’m nervous as shit,” I was told recently by a former member of Overgrow.

damn i think i might be a little bit more careful about what i say on the net. i'm surprised that the canadian government went after him like that seems that the main reason was his website, if thats it the us government must of had a part in it.

well wouldnt really be that much of a surprise since we go harder on the pot smokers since we do on the sex offenders. well guess that doesnt really apply but still im sure the us had something to do with it.

Actually I don't think anything like that could actually happen in America. To be quite honest with you who is to say that we are just not a bunch of people posting pointless crap up on the web. I mean this site is at about the bottom of the marijuana forums in terms of large quanities of pot. Just from what I can tell from reading peoples posts this is more of a personal smokers forum not a growers haven.

Beats me if they have nothing better to do then arrest some kids on suspicion of smoking a little personal herb over an internet website, well then they really are not living up their potential as police officers. , Meth, rapes, murderes, X these are the things that cops should be looking for not a little bud.

As for overgrow I am glad I never got affiliatied with that site.

Heaven's Stairway Seeds (hempqc.com), Cannabisworld.com, Overgrow.com, Eurohemp.com were all shutdown as well. i think they are all linked with the owner of overgrow.

the reason they got was for there connections to growers, they themselves being growers, and the link they shared with other online sites that sold seeds and equipment.

i think that weedguru wont catch much heat but i am going to be more careful about what i say or what images i might post

Well if you are not in canada and you used that site, I bet you have nothing to worry about.

However laws apply as they are wrote and unless someone can find where it says it's illegal to post pictures or talk about growing, there is not much to worry about.


For some reason when I think of this I think of the whole "Napster Vrs The RIAA" thing.

My mate is a member of tht site and a grower. He told me about this a couple of days ago, and it's not suprising, i think the guy posted pictures of huge grow operations he was carrying out at the time. I doubt they'd arrest a member for the same reasons but the guy who ran the site obviously had his real name and other personal details connected to name he was posting with.
