Military and Drug Testing...

Does anyone know how drug testing in the military works? Can you get away easily with smoken pot? and i know you get DTd once when you sign up at MEPS and again upon arrival at bootcamp, but do you get testd inbetween going to MEPS and shipping to bootcamp? My guess is that you only get testd Once at MEPS and Once at Bootcamp, and then just randomly once your done with bootcamp. But i dunno for sure. - Thanks for the help!

You get tested a few months before your training starts, right before your training starts, and there are random drug tests during your service. So I'd say doing drugs is a no-no if you're military.

damn, see im in the Marines, Ive been testd once so far, they did that during my "physical" at MEPS. Im still in high school and i got about 4 months left before i gotta go to bootcamp, i know for sure they test me at the start of bootcamp, but im tryin to find out wheather or not i can smoke during this 4 months, or if they will just one day test me during this inbetween time. Basically if i they arent gonna test me, ima live it up during this time before bootcamp but if they will then ill just quit now . Damn, so much crap for something so simple, whys it gotta be illeagal:(

Search the forums, there's a bunch of topics on how long weed stays in your system, but I think quitting a month in advance would do the trick... but I'm not sure.

i was almost in the marines, they test once when you sign up, again when you ship out, a third time when you arive at boot, and then randomly in 5 day intervals. so if ur in active duty, ur done with pot. if ur in the reserves you can smoke as long as you clean out ur system about a week before you go back for ur monthly duty. but dont take any chances, if you fail a drug test in the military u'll be in deep deep deep shit, and have a permanant record of it....so it aint worth the risk...
you can smoke all you want before you ship out, it takes on average about a week to a week and a half to cleans your system if you drink a shitload of water. i smoked every day for 2 years before i signed up then cleaned out my system in a week and a half just by chugging water constantly all day. also tell ur recruiter that you smoke, he wont care and wont tell anyone and they will help you out, they want you to become a marine so they make their quotas and get paid. my recruiter helped me clean out my system and would talk about pot openly with me all the time. he told me that those marine corps water bottels they hand out are strickly for the purpose of cleaning weed out of ur system, and that 90% of marines are former potheads. he wasnt kiddin either, he knew more about pot than i did! and when i went for my physical tests, every kid i met there was chugging water and saying how bad they wanted to smoke

whew, very good to know. So you think i should be ok to smoke until about a month before i ship? If so thatd give me 3 more months of good smoken time . Ima be active duty so sadly looks like these will be my last days with pot for ALONG time .

read what i wrote up there, ive been in ur shoes dude. the month long detox thing is government bullshit, i know from experience it takes less than two weeks

and they wont random test you before u ship out
like i said tell ur recruiter, they're totally cool with it

i was like one inch from shipping out. i couldnt go cause ive got bipolar ADHD that they didnt find untill the night before i shipped...but i went through the whole process of preparing for it, so if u got any other questions, let me know

If you're serious about joining the military and really want to do it, I'd give up smoking now if I were you. It's a good idea to give your lungs as much time as possible to repair before Basic, that way you don't have an asthma attack the first time you get IT'd. Once you're done with Basic, you get randomly drug tested three times a year. If you test positive before you ship out, you get kicked out of D.E.P., but you can enlist again after six months. If you somehow manage to beat the pre-shipping out test, but test positive at Basic, then you're gone. It's really not a HUGE deal to test positive in the military. You don't go to jail or anything...you just get discharged and can never come back.

Heh, im not worryd about being ready for it, ive gotten all the Requirements for getting 100% on the IST for Marine Corps Bootcamp and i can do that and then some. hah Strangly even after smoken quite awhile runnings my strongest area, i got my 1.5 mile down to about 9mins and my 3 mile to about 18. I just wanted to make sure i wouldnt be tested while im waiting to ship, i still got a good 4 months, i plan on stopping fully bout month and half before. I think where i run every other day and strength train, that even while smoken i stay in pretty good shape. Thanks for all the help:)
