I usually toss mine after a single smokeout, and just make a new one the next time. But that's just me, and I make mine half-assed out of plastic bottles and foil.

Firstly depends on how often you use it.

I find once all the brown shite has covered the sides the smoke starts to taste a bit stale.

Best bet is to replace the vessel itself but keep all the other bits and make a new one once its hard to see the water level through the ming on the sides.
