Well, Im American, and to me "Yankee" doesnt offend me at all, in any sense. Its a word, a slang wor,d to describe us. For gods sake, theres a hugely popular baseball team here named the Yankees. Theres nothing wrong with it. No more than saying Aussie, Brit, etc etc.

It hink though, that the cause for this mistreating in Iraq being shown by the American soldiers is because they think that they are the baddest mothafuckers on earth. They think that since they went through all their training that they can do what they want in a field because their ego is taller than the Seattle space needle.

It deeply hurts me that soldiers do such things as mistreat innocent civilians (and even opposing militants). Abu Graihb is a huge one. THough no matter how many cases come up in the news, there are surely dozens more. There's no way we can stop it.

Sure some soldiers ARE respectful, some do their job, some dont even like what theyre doing, but they do it to help them pay for college and a life.

ive had a tine (.1%) consideration for going into the army to help pay for my college program, which is going to cost me $90,000 (estimating 50,000 pounds...). But if i do go into the military for such a reason, i will absolutely not be fighting in combat. I might work with routing on computers or something.

but i refuse, i absolutely refuse to fight anyone that i dont have a problem with. I have no problem with the Iraqis. The violence they show towards americans is legit. We came in and destroyed their home, their lives, their innoccence. If we had stopped at finding Saddam Hussein, that would be a different story.

The American government needs to focus on more important things. HIV/AIDS I think is a much beter cause for fighting (and actually, there was a professor at a university 25 miles from where i live that found a cure for aids. Guess what the good old drug companies did? They covered it up. HTe news was published once. It was never on CNN, it wasnt in the newspapers, people werent celebrating.... my own doctor didnt even know it had been found....

that pisses me off. Drug companies are the companies i choose to fight.
Theres a cure for cancer. There truly is. But again, the drug companies offer millions of dollars to the [usually independant] researchers to buy it from them, then they lock up the successful formula.

How fucking rediculous is that? Why cant we fight the tobacco companies for killing people?

The last time a cure was found, was 50 years ago!(Polio, Dr. Jonas Salk) We have the technology. We have the knowledge. We have the means. We have the reasons.

It is unbelievable. Now, i dont know if this is just the United States, but if it is, i shit on this land, and i want out.

wicked post, Falkon. And thanks, for putting my mind at rest in relation to the word yankee...that is exactly how i thought it was taken, ( by most americans). but still, i aim to be a touch more careful with it's usage...

this period of time is really teaching me that i must stop expecting my idea of what is right and wrong, to be the same, fundamentally, as every other Good person I know...
in fact I need te retrace my steps to the 'humans superior??'post because my own understanding of 'civilized' needs to be brought under the light...As I change the meaning so hat the word can be used to desrcibe animals, but it's history in the english language is predominantly one just for humans...

i watched a documentary on an american battilion in iraq and these guys were bumbling fools i must say, the one thing that got me was when a soldier shot a dog in the chest and its owner an old iraqi man came out and crouched down next to it and watched it die, then of course just had to walk back into his house.

we need oil you fuckers. why the hell are people so pissed. we found plans to build weapons of mass destruction. we NEED oil badly!!!, although i do think we should find an alternative, and terrorism needed to stop. we arnt at war anyways. we are actin as a police untill we set up a government there. try listining to Bush, instead of reading or watching warped views of everything he says
