(this particular story involves music, not video games)
A few years back, my parents claimed that i left a CD playing in our home stereo downstairsone day when a friend was over. We had gone out to chill, and when i came back they told me i was grounded because the CD i had left on. I didn't, in fact, leave the CD on, they just used that excuse. (the CD by the way was The Distillers: Coral Fang.) So them and i had a conversation about it for a while.. more like an argument, whereas i tried to get my damn CD back from their oppressive hands.
Well, it all ended when they decided to take me to a psychologist about it. After hearing both sides of the story, my psychologist told me that what they did was rediculous, taking away a CD from me because of the lyrics.

Anyway, I think, on the video game level, its like many other things in life. For example.
My parents caught my friend and i getting drunk off my dads alcohol one time (they found out a month or two later). My dad had a decent conversation with me about how i shouldnt drink, and especially not from his liquor. So i never drank from his liquor again (though i have gotten drunk many times since then)
2nd example. My parents had a strict rule that i couldnt play any violent video games, and absolutely no 'M' rated video games were to be in their house. They confiscated a few, and got real pissed about it... well, i kept bringin them and buying them, and they just kept being bitches about it.

So, bottom line and point of stories:
If you overcontrol your kids, they're gonna do something behind your back, no matter how hard you try to stop them. If you dont give a shit about your kids, they're gonna get into deep shit, and become bigoting icons in society. If you talk to your kids nicely, and have a good conversation with them about what they shouldnt do, and why, they will be much less likely to do something stupid, dangerous, or downright ugly.

Wow, they flipped out that bad over coral fang :?

What would they have done if you had played anything by (Not that I like these bands) Craddle of filth, the haunted, slipknot and (god forbid) MAYHEM!

Welll.. its funny that you mention that.

I wanted to get a Slipknot hoodie (hoodies are all i wear in the winter... i love em ^.^) a while back when i was with my stepmom. well, it had a picture of all the band members (you can find this picture by googling Slipknot Ceiling) on the back. She thought it was so demonic that she threatened me about even listening to them.

So, naturally i just kept listening to them like usual. I dont know.. its fucked up, it really is. Music is art. Art is imagination. Imagination is good. And repressing or opressing imagination, music, or art is downright evil, despite what someone thinks of it.

Thank you! That was the best thing I have read in a long, long, time.

Without my music I am nothing.
