thai, just because you changed your major doesn't mean you have to try to say everyone does it.
tarential, we should start a company.
i don't play computer games and i don't have much interest in programming them, though i do all sorts of applications. 'making games' seems like a job any kid who likes games would say they want, kinda like "i wanna be a fireman when i grow up." it's likely not how you picture it.
developing a 3d engine is much too complex for me and most programmers, the task beyond that is pretty simple.

don't be free: it's your duty as a citizen / don't smoke weed, must pay to continue living / if we all buy in maybe it'll be a reality / all pretend, and then all blind can control the city.

If you dont wanna go into the mathematical/numeric side of games dont get into animation. It is all run by numbers, corresponding by one-another to join into one moving unit. Proffessional animators put out an average of 2-3 seconds of actually moving animation in a 9 hour workday. At my previous job at Mainframe (i was a runner, not animator of course) people would work 8-14 hour days, and there was one guy that everyone looked up to named Nicholei cuz he was able to put out 4 seconds a day. If you want more the simple/artistic route, go with character modeling and scenery construction.

yeah man that sounds dope, but when games come out they all ways have a Publisher and a Developer, so its like the publisher makes the sketch and ideas of the games animation and the developer creates it ? like that mathimatical shit ? i rather work for a game publishing Co. then lol im stoned man cuz rockstar games is the publisher of Gta3 and the developer was DMA design then they changed their name to ROckstar north and vice city was made by rocksstar games and rockstar north which is the blue rockstar logo freaky shit, damn i think when im high i ramble on anyone ever got that feelin ?

yea but those artsy jobs of character and level design and game scripts only make up a very small part of the game creating jobs. they'll often be filled by someone who's also got knowledge of the programming part as well.
tarent, no, i only have aim. sn: theivydropkicks if you have it

Wrong...Character design consists of movement too, once a designer has designed a character he plots graph points , sometimes as much as 3 pages of numbers depending on the complexity of the character, and sends that to the animators.
Scene Construction can and usually is more complex. Once you've put everything together theres still textures. They are by far the most time consuming, going into PS and creating hundreds of textures that are necessary to create a game is mindblowing...
All you need besides that is story writers, then developers who will broadcast your product to the customer.

Ok
Well, first of all, I do programming and website design.
Secondly, i never said anyone HAD to change their major. I was just simply saying to keep an open mind before you actually get to school. Apparently my meaning was lost a couple of reply's down.
Thirdly, if you do decide to stay in this "major" youve already chosen for yourself, GOOD LUCK
I have alot of contacts in engineering and tech, and every single one of my "old dude" friends tell me all the time to stay in this field. It holds alot of promise .. not for video game design, but for government projects and for the future of scan technologies.
Has anyone read alot about code indigo or avalon ? I just wish they would keep a code for long enough for me to learn it and then take a break
But alas, coders are buisily working, making my skillz a CONSTANT test. Bah humbug to microsoft and their never ending source of new windows code.

i whole heartedly agree with thai, you should wait till you get into college to decide a major, its better to think about it for a while and experience "life after high school"
