Will the offspring of auto flowering seeds be auto flowering?

A friend had some auto flowering seeds. He grew them. Unfortunately did not glean the difference in male and female, and whilst several females flourished, they all went to seed to a degree.

The smoke was apparently still decent enough. And now those offspring seeds have been germinated and grown. They didn't seem to auto flower. Instead, have only recently, after several months of growth, began to show female and male indicators.

So the question I ask is...do auto flowering male and female plants give birth to auto flowering progeny??

I have no idea of the seeds my chum used...though he ponders that they are feminised offerings he purchased from abroad many moons ago. My instructions have been to trim the three heading up, carefully, and ensure they get darkness for in the least 7+ hours per night. Following this advice he has since reported that 5 of the 6 have shown welcome white tentacles!
