...and then one day you find,
ten years have got behind you,
no one told you when to run,
you missed the starting gun...

Re: The Random Topic
Yesterday, whilst strolling awkwardly through the kasbah here in marrakesh, I was forced to mime my ailments to a pharmacist until he roared with odd glee 'nappy rash!!!!!'. I nodded, indicating with my sullen demeanour and quick flash of the notes that I wished to conclude our business sharply...

Watched Boogie Nights for the first time a few nights ago. What an intense film. PT Anderson has to be the singlemost talented American director working today. There's my random thought for the moment.

Animal why do you always talk like that? Surely it must get tiring speaking in poetic prose nonstop. Out of curiosity, do you talk like that in real life?

I'm both an avid reader and avid writer, Mr black...part of my mind can speak naturally in a more elegant and verbose manner, but its rarely how I speak with my tongue. I come from a realm where to be well written and well spoken inspires a respect of sorts. With many of my idols great writers, I like my writing to read well. And its just something I seem naturally capable of doing. It would be better if I could play football like maradona, and if I could I'd make sure I played with magnificent flair every time I stepped Into the pitch...as it would be great if I was a natural born leader like Alexander the great or atilla the hun or Genghis khan, but alas I am not.blackxs wrote:Animal why do you always talk like that? Everyone needs role models. Some are more easy for me to learn from than others...

well, I am quite certain he wrote like that as a joke, to discredit the guy who's username was Black0g(or something similar) who used such language. It does come through quite clearly in the context.

I've melded the blacks into one! Exactly what blackxxx wanted to avoid has happened...forgive me and blame the Moroccan heat...still, I stick to the same point...as in...surely it takes major effort to write like that, since its almost begging for ridicule. But essentially, I've long ago learned to accept others dictions, at worst with amusement and its only when I come across my own tribe's miserable modern tongues of the lowest order that I baulk in haughty disgust...

I would have to agree with you, Animal. Though Im nowhere near as articulate, I too have a love for words and language that seems to be a dying breed these days. It comes with its set of drawbacks though, as alot of the people I interact with on a daily basis try to peg me as pretensious or that Im trying to sound smarter than them. Not the case. I just love words.

I also agree, but vacillate slightly around one key tenet which i have found to be commonly anachronistic..... (see), but most people do find it pretentious as you know, so why do it if you know that you would be better off by not doing so. It has it's place. And amongst ordinary people colloquialisms prevail. It's the most socially acceptable and beneficial for a host of reasons so it would be a facetious person to not do so in person.

Well said, lep! At the same time you're unequivically pententious for making evident the inevitable futility of an exuberant vernacular whilst among those less adept at the complexities of the English language.

“So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do. It also won’t do in your essays.”
