recover deleted texts on iphone 3g???

i made exactly the same error my Lady did a while back...in a state of fierce fatigue, i thought i was deleting a record of a missed call, but actually deleted near to 6 months of one text conversation between my beloved and I.

is there any way i can recover these to my iphone 3g (jailbreak)??? or are they gone for good??? Other than resending the lot from her blackberry??? i hope i can recover somehow, for some of my finest, most romantic lines are in that huge block of text...

please help!

i have been reading that whenever i charge the phone and it syncs with itunes on Windows, the SMS database is backed up automatically...can anyone confirm this??? and if so how can i restore from the last sync????

Success! Through a stroke of luck, a backup was made only 3 days ago...So itunes finally showed its value and recovered what I had so painfully lost.

im glad you were able to recover the deleted files.

you should look into locking them, to avoid accidentally deleting them again in the future

is there a way to do that with an old iphone??? I best start researching...as wonderful as Apple are, it surprises me that they do not include as default, a function which recognizes lengthy (in terms of time and characters) conversations, and offers you a 'ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE?'.

Well, considering you have to push "Edit," then select the conversations/messages you want to delete, then click the big red "delete" button, I think there are enough safeguards. I've never 'accidentally' deleted anything on my iPhone

Having only had the phone for a few months, I was not aware that a miss call from a number adds to part of a lengthy text conversation. Which doesn't strike me as an obvious thing to assume...but admittedly I am used to, and prefer the old Nokia style, rather than this conversation routine, which seems more suited to younger generations who engage in conversations on their phone as if they were on MSN. Still, all is well that ends well.

ive always been able to find out how on my cell phones, but ive never had an apple product before.

I've learned to lock important messages. I often delete my threads.

I managed to recover what I had lost through an itunes sync...so the crying was halted mid flood and I learn to be more careful for the future. Cheers for the input though folks.

When files are "deleted" they are not actually removed from your iPhone, until something else overwrites them. So by saving anything else to them you may have overwritten them. There is a decent chance that you can restore them though. I've successfully used undeleted plus before to restore messages that were accidentally deleted on my iPhone. You can have a try of the iPhone SMS Recovery software, and you can go through the tutorial of it if you'd like.
