Operation Jade smashed £13m North Wales drugs ring

Post by flagg »

OPERATION Jade uncovered the largest-ever cannabis factory in Britain and recovered drugs valued at an estimated street value of nearly £13m.

The scale of the massive police operation, which saw raids at properties across North Wales, can be revealed today as the last of the men accused of being involved in the enterprise were jailed.

Officers swooped on the former Jewson’s site in Penlon Works, Lower High Street in Bangor in June last year and found 11,276 cannabis plants.

Experts said the plants they found had an estimated street value of £2.3m. The potential street value of drugs grown over a 12-month period was £8.7m.

Officers also found sleeping and cooking facilities had been created for the workers employed to tend the crop. Other workers lived in rented accommodation near the cannabis factories.

Detectives also uncovered other factories across the region – recovering a total 17,960 plants with an estimated annual street value yield of almost £14m.

But Det Con Paul Byron of North Wales Police said it was only “pure chance” officers were alerted to the gang’s criminal activities.

He told the Daily Post: “Suspicions were raised by the owners of a house in Pant Glas near Porthmadog in January last year and officers discovered the remnants of a de-commissioned cannabis factory there.

“There was nothing at that stage to link anyone to that factory.

“In May 2,000 cannabis plants were found at an industrial unit in Colwyn Bay and Operation Jade, as it became known, was launched.

“Inquiries were underway when traffic officers stopped a vehicle on an unrelated matter on the A55. Two Chinese men were arrested and the vehicle searched and numerous plastic bags containing traces of cannabis leaf were found.

“As a result of information obtained from the arrest of these two men a search warrant was obtained for a large detached residential property in Deganwy. The search found 19 carrier bags containing cropped cannabis material, more than £125,000 in cash and documentation leading to addresses throughout North Wales.

“Bo Xing He (gang leader) and three other Chinese people were arrested at that property. Further searches were made at a house in Conwy used to house workers and 3,400 cannabis plants were found growing at an industrial unit at Parc Caer Seion, Conwy.”

The Jewson’s depot was raided on June 5. Two days later a further 1,270 cannabis plants were found at an industrial unit in Ash Road, Wrexham. Further factories were also found in Caldicot, Gwent and Middlesbrough.

During the trial of the three men sentenced yesterday further information came to light which led to officers discovering another disused cannabis factory in Skinner Street, Caernarfon.

As a result of the investigation 23 people were charged with cannabis production offences.

“In all 17,960 cannabis plants were found and multiple kilos of cropped cannabis recovered from various premises.

“More than £160,000 in cash was seized as well as high value designer handbags, jewellery and laptop computers.

“Seven vehicles were also seized and five have been confiscated,” said Mr Byron.

Concluding the trial of Pritchard and the Reid twins last month Judge Merfyn Hughes QC praised DC Byron’s handling of the case.

Describing the 26-year-old officer as “relatively inexperienced” the judge said he had conducted the investigation “in an exemplary manner” and asked for his compliments about DC Byron’s work to be passed to North Wales’ Chief constable

Goddamn, that's gonna have an impact on the price :o
Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

I know these Towns well but find it strange that bud is not easily available to buy around here , so was wondering where they took it to sell.

The cops just want to keep all the drugs out that they can't make a buck off themselves.
