Alright so I have what might be considered a dumb question, but I'm a tad bit retarded when it comes to computer stuff.

I have an cable internet connection with a 10kbps speed and a maximum of 60 gb per month in the package I chose. Last month I went over the 60 gb by 20 something gb's and was charged an extra 1.50 per gb for that.

What I want to know is what consumes these gb's? I download alot of torrents and I know that will do it. But what else? Like if I look at You Tube videos online does that consume those gb's?

everything you do on the internet takes up alloted download limit.
ie looking at this page might use up 1mb or something... (it doesnt... its a lot less... but for my point lets say it does)
youtube video might take up say 4mb
downloading a song 5mb
downloading an album 70mb
movie anywhere from 750mb-4gb depending on quality...

so the question probably comes down to how much are you downloading?

but 80gb in a month is a lot...is it a wireless or ethernet connection?

yeah but that is nowhere near your limit of 60gb...
does your ip allow you to view a log of usage and downloading?

that seems insanely slow when they give you 60gb a month. Is that you maximum download or upload speed? From where did you grab this figure, Higher?

Assuming they are a heavy internet user....but not taking into account downloading movies...just regular internet use

i think 1mb is 10-15 plain internet pages on average......anyways that is allot of useage..is this just the cheaper plan or you guys dont get unlimited usage in canada?

and while the 20 700mb movies only ad up to about 14gb you have to remember its going to be more from the bandwith you are using just to download it so i wouldnt be surprsied if just that is 20-25gb....i would ask your isp about a log of your usage only real way to determine anything


wsit: as to your usage question impossible answer a person who plays an mmorpg any form of game tbh...watches yt videos or jsut use forums...all these will be vastly diffrent so even if you could average everything out it wouldnt be accurate as all the extreme outliers

if you were just browsing on the computer, you'd probably use up to 30 gb if not less.. jcube is right with everything though, it's almost impossible to tell how much you use for an average person, and also with the movies you were spot on, I'd say it's about 1.3 - 1.8x more bandwidth than the size of the movie you downloaded.
