If i understand correctly, first is the germination 18/6 for about 4 weeks, until plant is about a foot tall....then change light to 12/12 to trigger flowering for about 6-8 weeks...and then VEGETATION comes into play correct? 20-24 hr light, but for how long of a period??? And what is the use of vegging?

You have got that backwards. First comes germination, then vegetation, and then flowering.

Germination is just the process of getting the seeds to root and sprout. Vegetation is the period where you let them grow, the length of vegging is up to you, it depends how big you want them. Flowering is when you change the light cycle to 12/12 forcing the plants into budding. Plants will double or triple in size during flowering. Flowering periods are generally 6-8 weeks but could be a more depending on the strain you are growing.
