feeling like i have shit in my throat like constantly

ive been smoking since the summer before my sophomore year in highschool, im now a junior on spring break. I would say ive been a heavy smoker for the time i have been smoking, when is started it was like 2 to 3 times a week but for a few months ive been smoking almost every day atleast once. Now at random times ill feel like i need to keep clearing my throat of phlegm but when i cough it up its mostly clearish white and not brown at all. even right now i keep on clearing my throat. And sometimes i have trouble at night sleeping because when i breathe through my mouth it feels like my throat is lined with gunk and so i breath through my nose but im congested so then i breathe through my mouth again after like 30 seconds and when i do i feel the gunk like wheezing kinda in my throat without making much noise though. Its a vicious cycle but it seems kinda random cuz some nights ill sleep fine and sometimes i feel like its just in my head but i hate it alot and i was wondering if this is normal.

I can't even remember when that didn't happen to me
