Music and nostalgia

Sometimes when I listen to a certain song it makes me really nostalgic. I listen to a song, usually stuff I dont even listen to normally, but I used to like, and it brings back all these emotions and feelings from the time period where I was into that music. Like I was listening to John Cougar Mellencamp's "hurts so good" and it reminded me of when I was in grade 5 and my parents divorced, or when I listen to old blink 182 songs and it reminds me of being that fucked up kid in my grade 6 class who squished ants instead of playing teather ball like the rest of the kids at lunch. It also happens when I listen to shaggy lol.

does this happen to anyone else?

not necessarily bringing back memories, just a feeling of wishing i had been there when it was all kicking off i.e. the clash, oasis, stone roses. watching films that heavily feature music like human traffic for example, clubs just aren't like that now.

Everytime I hear Butterfly by Crazytown I think of Rachel from Elementary school with her butterfly shirt..and how everytime she wore it we'd all sing Butterfly

Music is probably what brings back the most memories. Friends and I have different musics for different periods of our lives... Smashing Pumpkins in the summer, death metal in the winter etc. etc... Music triggers a lot in me anyways. I live and breathe music.

I find myself experiencing a lot of what you have described as well. For instnace, like you blink 182 used to be the band that i loved most in middle school, and whenever i'm really baked / fucked up and i hear blink, i actually feel like i'm in middle school again. I also just haev the visual flashbacks of the events / things that you did when you used to be really into whatever song that you are currently listening to. Was just talking to a mate of mine about this today and am happy to see that other people get the same kinda thing happening to them, it can be great.

I always think of the summertime when I listen to RHCP's "Blood Sugar..." CD. I think of Christmas whenever I hear Obituary's "Cause of Death" or Pestilence's "Testimony of the Ancients"

last night i got it while listening to atreyu. it was kinda wierd like i could feel how i felt back then, but couldn't remember too much of what i was doing then, just sort of an image of different things.

All the fucken time, especially with Iron Maiden, Judas Presit, Saxon, Cathedral and such. Just cause it takes me back to the first time I got into metal.
