Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? - Corruption

Post by Ziggy »

Who will watch the watchers?

I've been thinking more and more about this after becoming aware of all the corruption taking place.
Too many pigs on power trips, governments getting away with murder (per say), new stations reporting and giving false information.

And it still continues. Now they have come out with Electronic Voting. Right after Robbin Williams movie "The Man of the Year" comes out that shows electronic voting can be flawed. Electronic voting can be so easily altered. Im no computer haxor or wizard myself but I seriously believe that the right people can be bought to alter the outcome of these results. Why did we switch from something that shows and has evidence of peoples votes (voters cards), to something that can be altered with no substantial evidence, such as cards that can be brought back to show and prove final results if need be. They say that they changed to electronic voting in order to relieve the huge line ups to vote (when really, how long would it take to pencil out who you want and place it in a box?). But i think that if something as important as the future ruler of a nation depends on who votes for who, then some things such as having voter cards as evidence for later if need be, is definitely worth the extra bit of time taken to vote.

Also ive recently been a victim of police abusing their power. The pig falseified his report to show that i gave him permission to search my car and he left out the part about him damaging my car when he was looking through it. I believe there is a simply sollution for this. Outfit all police officers to wear a tiny headset camera and microphone so that whatever they do, whatever they say, it is recorded and can be viewed as evidence if need be. this would seriously deter many police officers from abusing their powers again if they knew what they were doing and saying could come back to haunt them. and if such a time comes where the pig's actions are brought back and he shows him illegally searching a car or abusing someone. then HUGE reprocussions should be taken because these are ppl that we trust and pay to protect and serve us.

As for the newsreporters. I dont really have anything to say their, or have any possible ways to show that the news their giving is misleading. Some of the time its not their fault, its because they were given the wrong facts. But how can we really prosecute those ppl who given false facts.

Anyways, this is just a subject that has been really bothering me lately and i just wanted to get it off my chest. Many of you will probably not agree, but feel free to correct whatever i have said, or suggest other alternatives or feelings on this view.

Hahah sucks for everyone who lives in the USA. Luckily we aren't affected. We trade with you, make money, and stay the fuck out of your shit.
I don't care about your corrupt government and I don't care about the countries said government destroys. Fuck that altruistic bullshit.

Who's in government doesn't matter, who wins the vote doesn't matter because it's the same people pulling the strings anyways no matter who's in office. Vote stats don't matter and haven't for years. As for the cops, bash them all you want but when you're getting assraped by a huge ex con in some dark laneway downtown you'll be begging for a cop to pass by. I've only ever had good experiences with police officers anyways. Even when they book me, they're polite and orderly and more often than not apologetic. I don't think it's because they're Canadian cops and not American people complain about that bullshit here too, but for every bad cop, there's two good ones. No armed force is going to come without corruption.

EDIT: Sorry if it seemed like im being insensitive and attacking you. I really don't like dirty cops but on the other hand I don't think they're such a big problem that something needs to be done about them. I think you should worry more about Islamofascists wanting your asses dead. Well, mine too...they don't like western people in general...

So your pretty much saying that it would be in our best hands to not care about something that can fuck up our lives just because you don't think it's out of the way of what people do. People do lots of work for something very pointless. At least getting something that can prove that a cop was lying or telling the truth is a huge deal. You probably don't give a fuck about it because it has never happened to you. Once something bad happens to you like that I'm sure that you will immediately change your mind.

You have a point there. But thats just another way of saying that power should never be totally given to one operation. Whoever has power, uses that power. And your really lucky you havnt run into a bad cop yet. I havnt had many dealings with cops, and yes probably a little over half of my run ins were polite for the most part, but the other have just been plain rude and power abusive. Im not saying we should get rid of the police, yes they do do a SHIT load of good, helping out a lot of people, but when it usually comes to teenagers and people who dont have the means to defend themselves either through financial, or their word vs. ours. the cops usually see this and abuse it. so im just saying that i believe to help fight this and many other injustices that occur, a headset with a tiny lightweight video recorder and microphone would do a lot of help when the cops feel the need to go on a power trip. I believe somewhere in britain something like this is already happening ?

As for Islamofascists. Im more worried about whats going on at home, not so much what some religious group across the ocean thinks of me because their lumping me into the "western" norm.

....and just a lil confused, are you talking to me Sprite ? or the other guy ?

There's way more police brutality and corruption incidents in the US than there are terrorist attacks. It seems you can't turn on the TV anymore without hearing about the police shooting a car full of unarmed men or killing a 92 year old women. At the same time theres not much we can do about it. They're given authority and control and they use that to their advantage, especially when it comes to lying to the public. They learned that from the same people who give them power, the politicians.

exactly. i dont know why mushies is more concerned with terrorists attacks when it says he lives in toronto canada and so far i dont believe us canadians have had to go through a terrorist attack yet. but for some reason hes more concerned with that than with something that can happen to him such as a cop abusing his power on him

Ok. So you propose that "the people should stand together" and beat the problem of corrupt police officers? Guess what will happen when they find out that that cop abused his power? Hmm? They'll suspend his licence, he'll have a week of vacation, and then he'll come right back and do it again. This will happen a few more times untill he is fired. Then will hire a new cop. Process repeats itself. There's no way you can stop police from abusing you other than not doing anything ilegal (which is pretty god damn hard if you live in the US and smoke weed.)

ye but to help fix that problem, it would be easy to do what i said and have everything they do and say recorded that way it will deter them from abusing their power because they will know that their actions and words can be brought back and used against them

Uuuuuh. Yeah. They're supposed to record everything they do. How do you propose we record EVERYTHING they do? Have someone fallow them around and record that shit? What if recording personnel are corrupt? Then we're even more fucked...

On the cop? I'm sure he could just turn it off and say you broke it. Electronics are the last thing you want to make or brake your case...

how would he be able to say that the other guy broke it. the camera would show that it suddenly just turned off. only way the cop could say that the other guy broke it would be if the guy started a fight and in that case sure he gets watever he deserves, but if it shows the cop started the fight and then the camera "got broke" it would still show the cop starting the fight and he would be penalized
