Ye Saddam was a bit extreme in his ruling but atleast with him there, there was some form of authority as opposed to when he was thrown out and it was total chaos and open for anybody to do anything

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? HE MURDERED THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF HIS OWN PEOPLE BECAUSE HE WAS ON AN INSANE POWER TRIP! THAT'S THE MOST DISGUSTING THING I'VE EVER HEARD ANYONE SAY ON THIS BOARD!

"A BIT EXTREME?" Oh my fucking god! Some people....URGH It frustrates me how people go on and on with these lies about how Bush is some maniacal fascist Nazi dictator, but they're perfectly OK with fascist dictators in the middle east committing mass murder. I would MUCH rather be defending myself from rampant disorderly citizens than from armed guards under orders from Saddam Hussein. Christ allmighty the ignorance that plagues the world is unbelievable. :x

Exactly, Saddam had to be taken down or in a couple years we would have been calling Bush an idiot for letting him to stay in power.

That doesn't answer anything Chris, Saddam still had to be taken out. Anyways, Bush was probably supplied the wrong information he acted on.

While I would have worded that very differently, Ziggy, I do hold a somewhat similar opinion to the above. 'bit extreme' should be replaced with 'downright heinous megalomaniac scum' and the 'was total chaos' exchanged for 'the most horrific civil war of modern times that continues to worsen'.

The point that iraqis, as a whole, are been killed in far greater numbers nowadays than when Saddam was in charge, is indisputable. And for anyone to consider the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq has anything to do with humanitarian ideals is laughable. I feel pity for Westerners who somehow manage to blind themselves to the gruesome facts of the Neo Con attempts at imperialism and resource acquisition.
Let us look at another country in which the leader continues to organize the widespread slaughter of their own people: Sudan. Now why hasn't that kind-hearted soul George Bush sent his military machine to Sudan to stop the blatantly government supported genocide that has been raging like wild fire for many months???Especially strange given Sudanese oil fields...The US cannot make moves to acquire Sudanese oil or to ostensibly halt the carnage because the Chinese have their own arrangements with the Sudanese government. If they didn't have major economic investments in the war torn African state perhaps we would see another war. And what about the former Yugoslavia...Where were the Western troops when civillian executions were filling the earth with hundreds of bodies per day???

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, "Iraq contains 112 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, the second largest in the world (behind Saudi Arabia), along with roughly 220 billion barrels of probable and possible resources. Iraq's true potential may be far greater than this, however, as the country is relatively unexplored due to years of war and sanctions."

Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill revealed that just 11 days after Bush's inauguration in early 2001, regime change in Iraq was "Topic A" among the administration's national security staff, and former Terrorism Tsar Richard Clarke told 60 Minutes that the day after the attacks in New York and Washington occurred, "[Secretary of Defense Donald] Rumsfeld was saying that we needed to bomb Iraq." He added: "We all said … no, no. Al-Qaeda is in Afghanistan."

This is what happens when two veterans of the oil industry gain control of America. Cheney and Bush had this bullshit planned even before 11/9.

two weeks before the American invasion of Iraq, Hans Blix, the chief UN weapons inspector told the UN secutiry council that Saddam's co-operation with his investigations had improved to the point where it could be called "active or even proactive," and that inspectors would be able to declare Iraq free of prohibited weapons within a few months time. The very same day that Blix made his report to the UN security council, IAEA head Mohammed ElBaradei reported that there was no evidence of a current nuclear program in Iraq.

If you wish to continue believing that the joint yankee/british invasion of Iraq was anything to do with thwarting terrorism or saving lives you are woefully mistaken.

Former Iraqi Oil Minister Issam Chalabi told the Associated Press that "Iraq has more oil fields that have been discovered, but not developed, than any other country in the world." British-based analyst Mohammad Al-Gallani told the Canadian Press that of 526 prospective drilling sites, just 125 have been opened.

Nobody here claimed that Bush is a truthful man, or that the war in Iraq is a legal war. But the fact is that far less innocent civilians have died under American rule than if Saddam had stayed in power, so even if Bush is a scummy president, and even if the war was for all the wrong reasons, it had to happen.

I am completely at a loss as to why 'it had to happen'???what are you reasons, Mushie??? Surely you aren't inplying that a gang of exiled anti- Ba'athists have risen to power in prominent white house positions???Or are you?please explain.

Saddam was responsible for numerous atrocities committed against the human race in general though many of these deaths can be attributed to war. War which includes not only offensive action by Hussein and his party against factions within Iraqi borders and neighbouring states but also American instigated resistance fighters who were supported and encouraged to rise up against Hussein by the yankees even though there was no end solution to that idea apart from the resistance fighters deaths.
Kurds, Iranians, iraqi security forces which refused to execute people for ridiculous reasons and many more groups suffered horridly at the hands of Hussein but still the country was not the hourly bloodbath that it is today...Rather than harp on with my own humble and only half educated opinion, I turn back to my good friend Mr Hans Blix, the former chief of the UN weapons inspectors. He vindicates my own view:
'Saddam would still have been sitting in office. Okay, that is negative and it would not have been joyful for the Iraqi people. But what we have gotten is undoubtedly worse,"

Or maybe we can ask the savagely ambitious presidential candidate Madam Clinton...(she is referring to the improved constitutional rights for women which were implemented by Saddam...

'They(women) went to school, they participated in the professions, they participated in the government and business and, as long as they stayed out of [Saddam's] way, they had considerable freedom of movement,"

I stuck Hilary in for some balance. Personally I think she is scum mainly due to her complicity and support for ISRAEL'S holocaust on the arabs.

So how about finishing this quote fest with a few words from a man I do thoroughly respect, Kofi Anna, the outgoing UN secretary General. He was recently asked by the BBC if he thought that Iraqis were better off under Saddam, he replied:
'"I think they are ... in the sense of the average Iraqi's life.
If I were an average Iraqi obviously I would make the same comparison-They had a dictator who was brutal but they had their streets. They could go out, their kids could go to school and come back home without a mother or father worrying, 'Am I going to see my child again?'."

The problems of today revolve around the American appointed government of Iraq's unmalleable intentions to inmbue religious doctrine in place of any nationally agreeable system of law and order. Saddam operated under a system of 'equal opprtunities oppression', a marekdly different routine to the hellbroth we see day in day out in the post Saddamm Iraq...

Sorry, I think I worded that wrong. What I meant was that it was going to happen sometime. I mean really you can't honestly think Bush is the one doing all the lying and scheming about the middle east?? He is just a puppet. I think there are people pulling strings that we will never know about and I think even if Al Gore had won the presidency way back when there still would have been war in Iraq. Might as well make the best of it and enjoy some oil while we're at it. What's the big fuckin deal about war, anyway? People have been killing each other off since we existed. Why now is it such a big deal? Because "love will save the world?" pfffft hahahaha. Do we want middle eastern countries growing to the point where they could offer a real threat? I sure don't.

There are wars causing the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians in Africa right now all the time in multiple countries. Why don't you all go whine about that, hmm? Jee, I wonder. Maybe because you don't really care about the deaths of innocents or the dishonesty of your government. You're all just bored middle-class kids who have nothing real to whine about so you pick something that doesn't effect you whatsoever but is the topic of popular debate and controversy.

I won't lie. My family is filthy fuckin rich and we benefit from conservative government, so while I may be indifferent as to the war in Iraq, I really don't hate bush all that much. I just think he's kind of thick in the head.

Just my 2 cents.

edit: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH this thread is called "assasinate george bush"!! Oh sweet irony!!

Nobody has suggested a love conquers all approach...

Personally speaking I come from an extremely working class, relatively poor background...Though I fail to see the relation between Bush's decision to invade two countries and social status of the contributors to this debate.

The war is real and it is something to whine about when we are the ones financing it and the devastation that it brings about.
Mushie, you seem unable to back up your points with anything other than sweeping generalisations. The fact that you think Bush's only problem is that he is ignorant proves beyond doubt how painfully unaware you are of the moves he has made and continues to make from his White House hotseat.

As to the wars raging in other areas, for example in several African regions; I do actually attempt to spread knowledge and awareness of any carnage I learn about. Short of revolution the only path to changing the way the West not only avoids becoming embroiled in any form of humanitarian military actions but also maniuplates various foreign governments for profiteering, in my mind, is to spread knowledge and make people aware. The more people that are aware the more chance there is of exerting concerted pressure been on the governments of which I aim my anger(yankee/british), or better still at toppling the bastards when the next elections appear on the horizon.
If people don't know the real facts, or even a semblance of the real facts then there is no chance of change because the poor have no power and thr rich don't care about anything other than staying rich.

Also I fail to notice the irony. The post was about assassinating Bush and this issue, namely the war in Iraq, is a prime reason for millions of people wanting that pigfucker's head on a plate.

Casting aspersions onto others you debate with makes you seem lacking in knowledge and communication skills.

The major angst derived from the Iraq situation comes as a result of the terrible lies that Bush and Blair told their populations in order to quell the massive 'why the fuck are we going to war' sentiments that were widely displayed in the form of mass demonstrations.

There is also proof that Bush and Cheney had plans to invade Iraq and Afganistan many months prior to 9/11, not to end the despotic regime of Saddam Huseein but to procure new sources of oil. That is the truth of the matter.

are you saying george bush isnt on a power trip? and why is it bushes job to 'save' iraq? he just wants to police the world and if the people in iraq hated saddam sooo much how come noone ever tried to assasinate him (to my knowledge) cos if these people blow themselves up and dont fear death, theyd have killed saddam if they hated him that much.

That's because nobody could trust anybody in Iraq. You say something bad about Saddam, your tougne gets cut off or you just go missing and people you know never see you again. He was a brutal dictator and needed to be stripped of his power before he imposed his brutal mind on the rest of the world.
