Melandri wins French Le Mans MOTO GP
Valentino Rossi's season went from bad to worse today after his Yamaha died whilst the italian was well in the lead and looking comfortable for his second victory of the campaign. What looks like electrical failure ended Rossi's race and opened the door for Melandri to sneak through the pack and claim his own second victory of this interesting season.
Madman Capirossi out=paced spaniard Danny pedrosa(who held on for 3rd) on the final lap.
So after 5 races, the champion Valentino Rossi finds himself 43 points of the lead. To stand a serious chance of winning the title again this season, Valentino will have to win at least 5-maybe 6- of the remaining rounds and hope to gain podium finishes in the races he can't take win. This is perhaps the greatest challenge that the genius-who in my opinion is the greatest rider to have lived- has faced. If rumours are true inre: his departure to formula one, are true, then I expect Valentino to leave Moto Gp as champion, not as runner-up or as 5th place rider. CHampion.
So far, misfortune has played the greatest role in the moto gp championship. Bad luck is attacking the Yamaha in every country. Will the tide turn????Can Rossi prove he is truly the greatest rider of all time by stroming back to reclaim the title.....???

Rossi regains front-row credentials for his home race of Mugello (Italy. The suffering Yamaha wonderboy, was by far the fastest in all practice sessions before qualifying, and were it not for a final corner error, Rossi would have taken pole position.
The ducatis are running well with Gibernau and madman Capirossi taking the first two spots on the grid. But if Rossi's Yamaha can complete the race, I am sure it won't matter how well the ducatis are running, because Rossi, who has won the last four motoGPs at the mugello circuit, is a man on the comeback trail with talent beyond any of his rivals. Gibernau has a amusing tendency to bottle thebig moments, the big corners when rossi is right on his ass, waiting in his slipstream for a chance to break out and underbrake a corner to retake the lead.. Gibernau is too tightly strung to beeat a rider of Valentino class. Rossi is the most fluid racer in the paddock but so far this season his bike and misfortune have combined to position him eighth in the table. With news of a one year extension, expiring 2008, to his Yamaha comtract, there should be much reason for hieghtened excitement and energy from both the team, bike and rider.
Prediction----Rosssi victory, Melandri and Capirossi battle it out for 2nd/3rd....An Italian 123.
MotoGP qualifying (Sat):
1 S Gibernau (Sp) Ducati 1:48.969
2 L Capirossi (It) Ducati 1:49.058
3 V Rossi (It) Yamaha 1:49.167
4. N Hayden (US) Honda 1:49.212
5 S Nakano (Jpn) Kawasaki 1:49.328
6. M Melandri (It) Honda 1:49.343
7 J Hopkins (US) Suzuki 1:49.478
8 D Pedrosa (Sp) Honda 1:49.516
9 C Stoner (Aus) Honda 1:49.915
10 M Tamada (Jpn) Honda 1:50.084

Rossi triumphs in Mugello MotoGP
I picked up the race midway through the 7th lap. Rossi was leading, with Gibernau and Hayden in tow. Capirossi must have had a bad start because he was languishing in 8th...
On lap 16, Rossi made a small error, which allowed the leadership of te race to swing to Gibernau and his ducati. Capirossi- by this point- had clawed his way back from 8th to 2nd.The two ducatis looked powerful. Nicky haden , on the honda, was biting at their heels for a few laps, as Rossi began his comeback, having slipped to 6th courtesy of his smal error. By lap 19 Valentino was up to 3rd, with te mad bastard Capirossi firing his Ducati on full throttle through 99% of the track. It was exhilirating, heart-wrenching racing at it's best. Hayden, Rossi and Capirossi fought out the 1,2,3 positions on the last few laps, and it was on the very last cicruit of the beautiful Mugello track, that Rossi made his major move to steal the lead from Capirossi before creating a tidy buffer to finish with....Valentino was in imperious form. Credit to Capirossi and to Hayden, whose 3rd place will have done his own championship aspirations no harm at all....
Bravo Valentino. This was his 55th top-level victory, which ranks him as the second most succesful rider in history.
The champ is back in the running.
Oustanding race. pure adrenalin motorsports.

While i will not complete a review
I watch motogp quite often, and last nights ending was both tragic
and heartwarming at the same time
Rossi's galant charge from more than 50 points behind at one stage during
the season- and with him virtually only having to stay on his bike during the race to win yet another crown- it should have been all over
but most consistent performer ALL year, Kentuckien, Nicky Hayden, crossed the line in P 3 (Troy Baliss won!! yay go aussie!) and wrapped up his first world title....
moto gp is fantastic spectator sport!! one of the most exciting and with some of the most charismatic characters

Nicky Hayden won the title through a mixture of managing to stay on his bike and a large amount of luck. Injuries and mechanical problems forced ALL the main contenders to give up hope of claiming the title. Injuries and mechanical problems that led to a safe but not world class rider winning the championship.
Bayden isn't as good a rider as Rossi. No way near. He isn't as exciting or talented as Capirossi or Melandri. To see the Kentuckian made champion after winning just one race throughout the whole season was/is still sickening to an avid motoGP fan like myself.
It is obviously an enjoyable victory for Hayden, but wereit not for the issues affecting his main rivals over the course of the season as a whole, he would definately not have won the title. One of Rossi, Capirossi or Melandri would and should have taken the accolade.
Sincerely I offer congratulations to the Honda man and hope that he savours the moment as I cannot envisage another season for him in which ALL his main rivals are set back by accidents and bike problems.
Still, the one small ray of sunlight to escape this dark cloud of discontent created by a billion neutral and pro-Rossi supporters, is that Rossi, for the first time in many years, will start next season with the aim of RECLAIMING what is rightfully his. Instead of defending, he will be even more attacking than we have seen him in the past. If Capirossi and Melandri can stay out of hospital and their bikes stay on the track, next years introduction of the new 800cc machines could produce the tightest battle of this century. I can't wait!!!!
Well done Hayden, but he certainly wasn't the best rider of the championship. By my measure he ranks around 5th or at best 4th in terms of talent. The most boring motoGP 'champion' I have seen. But a thoroughly decent chap...
