"You can cause any female to go hermie, its caused by stress, by stress I mean, light getting into the dark cycle, Over-watering, over-nuting, PH problems, etc..... Some strains are more adapt at becoming hermaphodites like sativa strains. The reason some breeders induce hermies is when pollen from a hermie is given to other plants, the outcome of the seeds are more likely to be female, hence the feminized strains, but when it pollenates itself, the seeds are more likely to be hermies. What most growers want is sensimillia, which literally means "No Seeds" it is more potent than plants that produce seeds, because the female is producing more trichomes to grab any pollen in the air and hence more potency and bigger buds."

gender is a hormonal issue. you can reverse the hormones in a plant, controlling it's gender. this is how we make female seeds. we induce the plant to become a hermie. this is why female seeds have a tendency to hermie far, far more than regular seeds. hermying can be a trait bred in genetically, or it can happen because of environmental issues. high fluctuation of temps can produce hermies (light/dark temps), light leaks during 12/12 (leaks during veg can stress a plant into becoming male) can also produce hermies. a plant can also throw a few hermie male flowers out into it's buds at the end of flower, simply if it hasn't been pollenated, as a way of preserving it's genetics. a survival mechanism if you will. now onto 'bagseed' (seeds found in weed). bagseed have a tendency to hermie, simply because the plant that produced them, will usually have gone hermie to have produced the seeds in the first place. why would a grower that is selling bud, as someone obviously has at some point or you wouldn't be smoking it, be making seeds in it? if he was making seeds, he'd keep them. this means they are accidental. now this may be a mistaken seeded grow that had males in, but the likelihood of this is negligible. far more likely, this bud is from hermied plants. hermies being likely as a genetic outcome of hermies seeding themselves, or other hermies. hope that clears it up somewhat
