It's more of a guideline than a restriction...Captain you have nothing to worry about because as you said it's really more of a mentality thing...imagine this, it's like a night club- if you can act mature, have a good time and get along with people, but you're underage, we might just happen to not notice. On the other hand, if you act blatantly young and immature then unfortunately the guru's do what they must
