Marc Emery on 60 Minutes. The Prince of Pot

60 Minutes had an interesing interview with Marc Emery this last sunday.

"Canadian Marc Emery's marijuana seed business was ignored by Canadian officials, but U.S. authorities want to prosecute him for crimes that could land him in jail for life. Bob Simon reports."

The DEA wants him extradited to the U.S. so he can be charged for trafficking and dealing drugs even though he only sold seeds. He estimated that from the 120,000 people he sold seeds to 70,000 were american. He admitted to all the charges the DEA wants him tried for and he is proud to do what he does. Protests are being held now to try and let him not be extradited. But with Canada's recent change in Government which is now conservative, he might be charged.

I think it is BS, Canada should let him stay. He just sold seeds which doesnt hurt anything.


Theres a video clip of it somewhere on the 60 Minutes site also. Parts of it show him hitting a bong and talking with stoners. What a tight guy.

Yes he has done alot of good BUT...He is a RAT! He has outed several breeders and continues to do so! He can only HARM the MJ movement now with all his rantings. I's sorry to say that I DON'T support M.E. and he DOESN'T speak for MMJ users here in Canada NO MATTER what the media likes you to believe as M.E. is all for M.E. I have discussed M.E. with other fellow mmj growers here in Canada and they all say the same thing YES he did alot of good but he also has done just as much BAD for us.

RESPECTABLE and RESPONSIBLE use of marijuana is how we need to get the NON USER on our side and NOT by smoking joints in front of police stations.

Do you like seeing a ROWDY DRUNK on the street? Most people don't and alcohol is LEGAL so what makes you think that the PUBLIC want to see us smoking joints in their faces?

Oh yea 1 other thing when M.E. had his seed business in full swing if you ever complained to him about not getting seeds he would THREATEN you

I don't know either but I dont see this persuading our government to legalize it. Like that video they showed with all the people getting high, I don't think his attitude is helpful or that he's in it for anyone but himself. When I see pictures of him I dont trust his face he looks too shady.

At the same time I believe that nothing else seems to be helping this countries legalization policies despite the local decriminalization by so many states. So its a tough one to call it could make a decision that will help the cannabis community foward or put us much further behind. If he is extradited its going to be a gamble that puts us back or foward all depending on the way that the trial is run.

Just because its in a quote doesnt mean its actually true. Yes possibly Mark Emery WAS just a business man that was trying to make as much money as possible. But MAYBE he wasnt. I dont think you should change your opinion on the guy because one person put a quote on a website from some random person.

a valid point Gaz. I think its best to try and explain the situation and then illustrate a POV using real quotes from real people who are involved in the situation itself...
By sticking to a rule of :>only using " and " or ' and ' with names and fact, it gives a story a backbone, which is often sorely lacking in brief snippets of news..
Thats partly why I am writing the weekly news reports which hopefully merge Real News substance with my POV with the distinction between the two been as blatant as day and night..(thats the aim anyway)

I never really had an opinion on the guy. I thought he was pretty cool after seeing that thing on 60 minutes. I was just agreeing with what drgreenthumb posted, but then seeing as he didnt actually say it I dont know what to believe about him. And goshorty- on the interview it showed him hitting a bong then blowing smoke in a cops face then being arrested. He was only detained for 24 hours though. Hes a this is all a lie and a business man haha.

We got that 60 minutes story as well, I missed it. However, we have a gov owned channel (ABC- 2) which has a very good news program called Foreign Correspodant.

Couple of nites ago, they ran a story about mark Emery & how the US is trying to have him extradicted & how the laws in Canada are changing & accepting smoko as a part of society.
Generally, I would say most Aussies would agree that the US busting this guy in Canada & arresting him on Canadian soil is a big no no.. just think, they used to do this type of stuff as an undercover operation, now, its broad daylight & kick in the front door type o stuff.. laws mean nothing to the makers of them more & more..

I told you Canadians folks a couple of weeks ago that this is how Aussies see Canada.. most now want to visit asap
