Cottleston Pie

Post by Zen »

Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie,
A fly can't bird, but a bird can fly.
Ask me a riddle and I reply:
"Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie."

Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie,
A fish can't whistle and neither can I.
Ask me a riddle and I reply:
"Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie."

Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie,
Why does a chicken, I don't know why.
Ask me a riddle and I reply:
"Cottleston, Cottleston, Cottleston Pie."

This was a poem written by A. A. Milne, or as some might prefer to know, it was a poem written by Winnie the Pooh, the Bear of Very Little Brain. The poem seems very simple, or very complex. It's hard to make out exactly what it means, or what meaning it holds at all. Although, recently, earlier in the evening in fact, I was reading a strange little book titled "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff, and it contained a very apt interpretation in regards to Taoist beliefs. I won't bore you with the findings in the book, but perhaps instead we can entertain eachother, if not just myself, in discussing what you all think these verses, and the poem of a whole of course, could possibly be concealing under something so innocent that it could and would be uttered from our little bear named Pooh.

Peace~
