perhaps the chief has managed to finally impose his rule with enough fear.....
as for sharks.. they scare me more than most of nature/gods creations. i love the sea, i was born near the water and have always carried a strong connection with the worlds oceans/seas, which connect with the streams and the rivers, and the clouds and the rain. I was swimming from a very early age, at around 2/3 i think.
Luck has allowed me to travel quite extensively, and i know that i have a general love/bond for the water of the world, yes i prefer the whitsunday islands to brighton beach, but its still the sea and there is something magical about just being off the land(and at the same time different to been in the air).
as well as this connection, which i reckon is based with the spirit mainly, though also because much of me is water..anyay yeh as well as the bond/baptism of submerging, there is a complete other world..coral, fishes, dragons, turtles, sea urchins, and of course sharks. much more than that, obviously, but too much to list, even in outline, but a whole different world, as anyone who has observed and interacted with any aquatic life, knows only too well..
when i was say around 19-21 i swam far out, and spend days snorkelling, in deep water,, but its so clear around thailand/malaysia/australia/egypt.. in fact i gotta say some of the best days of my lfie so far, have been spent on deserted beaches with no human company, just the fishes and the coral...i loved playing the the fish, i loved just that feeling of almost been part of another dimension. yeh i was only snorkelling, but it becomes second nature to hold you breath and dive down, so you can be one of the fish for a while before floating to the surface to exhale your spent air(and the water in your snorkel) and inhale fresh air, in one motion, then diving back down to rejoin your buddies...
yeh i love aquatic stuff, even though i have worked as a fishmonger for many years...that probably doesnt compute to some people, but the Uk is not a country where you can always choose your profession...
I saw a 'killers' exhibition(Vic Hislops Shark Show,hervey bay) in australia in 2001 which really ruined the bravery(or lack of intelligent caution) whic had pushed me into deep waters and the world i had discovered and enjoyed. On display was a 18foot monster, which had been frozen for 8 years; the biggest caught apparently in Austtralian waters. i should fucking hope so, this fuckers heads was as big as my whole body, its teeth the size of my hands, a real nightmare..
at this shark exhibition, i couldnt acoid the walls covered in shark attack stories, all of which never reached the national media in Australia(covering a 30 year period maybe 71-01). I left this educational horror show seriously damaged, and my subsequent swimming excursions have not exceeded a depth 6ft and that is in the Uk, here in australia i dont go deeper than 4-5ft mainly because i have seen at least 4 deaths reported in the 5 months i have been here. SO i put those 4 with the memories/conclusions of Vic Hislops Shark Show and the logical conclusion is that the sea here is dangerous.. not dangerous like one person is killed per year, more like 10 -20 i would say, maybe more, who knows the real figures when the government prefers deaths from shark attack to be reported as 'lost to sea by rip tides' or 'smashed to pieces by the rocks and strong waves'...
as for the question of 'should sharks that kill people be hunted and executed?' my answer is as follows...
No, definately fucking not. i would never support that kind of crazy law, the notion of subjecting sharks to some kinda human decided restraints is the sign of an incredibly malfunctioning mind. i mean how are they supposed to know they arent 'allowed' to kill people, the problem is,(also with the air) that we dont control the water, yeh like the air we fuck it up and take what we want from it, whenver and however we can, but when we are inthe water, the sharks rule, as some people have a real problem with that, like humans by right should bset aside from other potential meals)for sharks) because of what???because we rule the land??thats not a good enough reason for the sharks to stop chomping people, human take their fish so what the fuck else are they gunna do??they are gunna eat more people, whole if pallatable.
if, by some devilish anomoly of evolution, sharks gained amphibious status, and yeh some kind legs, then i would revise my statement, because we would all be in serious trouble, but that would be a revision made more with my own survival and that of the humand race as a whole, in mind, which isnt at stake just yet....
i point blank refuse to eat any creatures which could potentially overpower and eat me. i mean i dont eat crocodile, shark or bear, but a chicken or cow doesnt present the same fear.
kinda 'dont eat what could eat you' approach...
but now i see yeh i'm just a bully, in some ways...
