people
Of all the people I have met, I still prefer cats.
Also birds, fish, dogs and rats.
I have always found a strange connection with the feline race,
Which is completely based around the eyes on the face.
Their moods are constantly visible to the eye not audible to the ear,
Whether towards you they feel untrusting, aggression or fear.
But to me human beings are much harder to understand,
Than the animals that communicate along the natural lines of the land.
Maybe I expect too much,
When another persons soul I think I can touch.
I am unusually easy to upset,
Anyone will you tell you this that I have met.
But with this comes a good ability to quickly forget,
And to only primarily intensely fret.
My longest serving acquaintance, my half Spanish brother,
And of course my long suffering mother,
I would trust with my life,
And to attempt to help me through any time of strife,
To care for me and to advise,
On whether my actions are stupid or wise.
People are all so complicated,
Even the tones at which we speak are precisely weighted,
To convey or to unmask depth of emotion,
We use words in this way with such devotion.
It’s easier for me with a feline creation.
As the natural flow of regard avoids cessation.
I want to hold everyone in such high esteem,
But for everybody to be the way I want them to be is a childish dream.
People can always be strange,
Their feelings towards you can always change,
But some people stick out from the crowd,
The voices of these souls I can hear loud.
They may be few and far between,
But their feelings towards me are totally pure and clean.
Which is why I seek to explore everyones mind,
Cos these special people I wish to find.
The needles in the haystack,
The people that would never stab you in the back.
Who love your soul in its naked form,
Though to meet these kind of folk isn’t the norm.
Also birds, fish, dogs and rats.

cheers people
hey i sincerely saying thanks for your praise. i love to write poems or rhymes, whatever. i show some to some of my good friends and to all you people on here. some others have said to me why dont you try to make money out of what you write but i say no, they not meant for making money. i just trying to see if anyone else thinks the way i think about the world i live in, it means more to me to have someone who hasnt ever met me to say ' youre stuff is wicked'.
if i can regsiter any kind of feeling from what i write then i am happy, and i hope that my sincerity is blatant in my work as its all written straight from how i feel, i kinda stopped chucking in lines just to rhyme.
just wanted to say cheers lots for taking time to write and say 'good work', it means something to me and pushes me to keep writing.

I loved this poem. I'm really baked and just chillin with my cat and my bf and it's true, cats are easier to understand.
The longest post ever
I am about to finish up my English major (literary analysis, not creative writing!) so maybe I have some helpful suggestions. I don't know much about publishing but I've been thinking about it, because I am in the beginning stages of writing a book. I have a great story to tell that I know would make money. Anyways I've been thinking about publishing and couldn't you just publish on-line? I mean you could set up a site that accepts credit card payment and just charge a small fee for access to your archive. Then you could advertise that website. I haven't looked into it but the reason I think it will work for me is I have this incredible true story, the kind of thing where if I give the first part away for free people will want to pay for the rest of it. Stephen King did something like this where it was an e-book in installments and if 75% of the ppl who downloaded each installment didn't pay $1 then he wouldn't release the last installment. Of course Stephen King is already a well known author so he made millions.
Ok the other thing I wanted to say before I forget is: I just spent an entire year studing poetry, difficult 17th Century metaphysical poetry. Small Example:
"This ecstasy doth perplex
We said, and tell us what we love;
We see by this it was not sex;
We see we saw not what did move.
But as all several souls contain
Mixture of things, they know not what,
Love these mixed souls doth mix again,
and makes both one, each this and that". -John Donne
So you can imagine I've come to despise poetry, because I would have to do literary analyses on the form, genre, historical context, etc.
Yeah what I wanted to say is I very much enjoy your poetry for the recollection of emotion and the wittiness; it also has a life force to it or something, like some of the classic poetry I read that I actually liked (NOT John Donne!). I've formed the opinion that poetry is a gift you must be born with and you can't get that good by practice. All the great poets of history were like geniuses, but not all of them were known during their lifetimes. So I had two points that got sarsed out: A) I recommend you let someone edit your poems before publishing, you write excellent poems but of course it is necessary to continue editing for meter, balance, punctuation, etc. and B) take heart, maybe your poetry will be exhumed when you are no longer living and students will have to study your poetry and the context of your life and times.

yo caro, thanks for taking the time to write such a reply!i dont think i a great poet, i like mos t of my stuff and am well happy that others do to.maybe i try get a small collection made ina a book and get afew copies done and then sedn to a shop or two, after like you say having someone edit them. kike you say, with poets, especially, no one really rate stheir work until a few hundred years after their lives. in their day people dont appreciate their greatness, but now for instance people like you are still looking back a few hundred years at works of poetry. poetry should be an expression of a time, a feeling, a world. a century.because when people write sincere poetry, its just like musical raw emotion. cheers for your comments.
good luck with your english stuff.

I think some light editing for meter and balance would make a big difference on that opinion....When you can say something clever that fits into tight poetic structure...that's what people will want to read.

"Which is why I seek to explore everyones mind,
Cos these special people I wish to find. "
this inverted syntax is rudimentary.
"Who love your soul in its naked form,
Though to meet these kind of folk isn’t the norm."
for example, you probably wouldnt say "isnt the norm" except for trying to make it rhyme with "form".. the syntax has taken precedence over content. you need to think about your ideas, then make them CONCISE. you may wish to use imagery rather than such direct language.

well cheers for the advise luke, but i dont think i want to change my poems too much. i just love writing ryhmes, i dont consider myself a great poet by any measure, i just happy if people like what i write. your example of saying i you probably wouldnt use' isnt the norm' i dont realy understand, as that makes perfect sense to me if somebody says it. i agree that it would be cool to use mor eimagery than direct language, but direct language okay. the ryhming might take a slight precedence over the content of a line, but i write always to say something, then to ryhme it. so i not ryhming just for the sake of it.
i dont even know what an inverted syntax, of the rudimentary variety as well, actually is so that shows you how much i know about use of language in prose, poetry or whatever.
"Who love your soul in its naked form,
Though to meet these kind of folk isn’t the norm."
i think those lines are wicked, because they are true, it isnt normal to meet people that you love you fully.honestly cheers for the advise and ideas.
