Britons closer to legit marijuana high

Drug users in Britain can carry enough cannabis to make more than 500 joints and still get away with it if caught. They only need to claim that the drug is for personal use.

The new threshold levels proposed by British home secretary Charles Clarke allow a person to carry four ounce of cannabis resin (hash) or 17 ounce of cannabis leaves (grass), worth £1,870 on the street. Anyone found within these limits will not face any charge —unless he is stupid enough to confess he wants to sell it.

After Labour downgraded cannabis to a C-drug last year, those caught with it for personal use no longer face arrest. Instead, they just get a formal warning.

Other drugs might also be carried in larger amounts. The home secretary wants to set the threshold for heroin at 7 gm, crack cocaine at 7gm, ecstasy at 10 gm, amphetamines at 14 gm and cocaine at 7 gm. These doses can be lethal if taken at one go.

The threshold levels have come in for a lot of criticism as it is feared that the proposal, if implemented, will be misused by drug-pushers. Though the proposal says action will be taken against a person carrying a controlled drug within the limit but with “other evidence” like “dealing paraphernalia”, it is believed the drug-pushers can still wriggle out.

The Home Office insists it is a sensible move to clarify confusing areas of the law. So far, individual police officers decide the point at which the possession of a controlled drug turns into dealing.

The Association of Chief Police Officers has warned that a defined limit would mean dealers “only carrying around smaller amounts than that prescribed”. Tories and Liberal Democrats have also expressed the fear that the law will help dealers get away.

But the government, sources said, is not listening.

shit!!! who do the government get there weed off man? they are totally being ripped off!!!4 ounces of solid is £120 (£30 an ounce most places) although some are still selling it at £40 per ounce but no one will buy it unless its dry, my brother can even get an ounce of solid for £25 (although i am sceptical of its quality) anyway my point is It aint worth that much haha oh and 500 joints? haha someones toploading tonys spliffs

That started off sounding brilliant, but then it sorta changed my view when it was saying you should be allowed to carry crack and heroin. Big no-no, that is never going to be allowed.

I think by leaves they do mean bud, but 17 fucking ounces that would be fucking brilliant.

I dont think its gonna happen though. Shame. There would have been more news about it since that was written almost a month ago.
