Taken from the AP.

``Get off your asses and let's do something,'' Mayor Ray Nagin told WWL-AM Thursday night in a rambling interview in which he cursed, yelled and ultimately burst into tears. At one point he said: ``Excuse my French - everybody in America - but I am pissed.''

Across the city, law and order broke down. Police officers turned in their badges. Rescuers, law officers and helicopter were shot at by storm victims. Fistfights and fires broke out Thursday at the hot and stinking Superdome as thousands of people waited in misery to board buses for the Houston Astrodome. Corpses lay out in the open in wheelchairs and in bedsheets. The looting continued.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco called the looters ``hoodlums'' and issued a warning to lawbreakers: Hundreds of National Guardsmen hardened on the battlefield in Iraq have landed in New Orleans.

``They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded,'' she said. ``These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will.''

At the Superdome, group of refugees broke through a line of heavily armed National Guardsmen in a scramble to get on to the buses. And about 15,000 to 20,000 people who had taken shelter at the convention center grew ever more hostile after waiting for buses for days amid the filth and the dead, including at least seven bodies scattered outside the building.

Police Chief Eddie Compass said there was such a crush around a squad of 88 officers that they retreated when they went in to check out reports of assaults.

``We have individuals who are getting raped, we have individuals who are getting beaten,'' Compass said. ``Tourists are walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon.''

A military helicopter tried to land at the convention center several times to drop off food and water. But the rushing crowd forced the choppers to back off. Troopers then tossed the supplies to the crowd from 10 feet off the ground and flew away.

It's survival of the fittest over there. Human nature reveals itself. I wouldn't want to be in New Orleans without a gun right now :?

Thank goodness we finally heard from my aunt today. She said that in the part of MS where she lives the sea side is completely destroyed. Nothing at all left, but only a few miles away her house was barely damaged.

One thing that is REALLY pissing me off, is how are newschannels going to report the devastation from Katrina then cut into a segment where people are complaining about gas prices??? THERE ARE HUMAN BEINGS SUFFERING, AND ALL YOU CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT IS THE PRICE OF GAS

A lot of these areas were impoverished already so people are sick of that, then make them lose the last bit of what they have and kill off their friends and family members...This could have been predicted :?

I think it's kind of a wake up call though. Somewhat at a national level as 9/11 was a more world wake up call.
The government state and federal should have been more prepared. They knew it was going to be a strong storm, hell it was supposed to be stronger than what it was. Yet they didn't prepare. Of course it was going to be chaos.

My heart does go out to the people though. Someone I work with has a lot of family there so she and her husband were going there this weekend as their first trip to start helping people.

ONE POUND A LITRE OF PETROL. All cause the states got hit by a hurricane, shit im payin 6 times what their payin over there, thats fair.
In the pub today everytime the news come on people were laughin about Americans finally gettin their just deserts. Sad that the poor Americans bare the brunt. Still though i dont think its right for foreign governments to give donations. Apparent superpower should handle this itself. If it can afford to medle in other countries inernational affairs then it can deal with this.
Shame they've got to use up some of their oil supplies. Whats even sadder is that the U.S. who is so dependent on oit has stocks that are equivalent to Norways let alone other European countries. Next time oil is threatened by nature we will be makin a tidy profit sellin oil over here!

.... Fidel event offered to send doctors to help the injured, but the government refused and denied needing help.

Are you fucking kidding me? America helps out other countries out of devistating circumstances all the time. How can the simple fact that they live in America make them deserving of this shit? You can't think of something this tragic as another way to divide the human race. That's not right. Everyone should come together and help those that have been affected, just like north america did for the tsunami.

I can imagine what's going on could get a lot worse. It will soon be an uprising. It may be pushing it, but I think this could be the downfall of America. Unless Bush does what's right for a change.. you're going to get a chain reaction of rage all around the country. It's mainly black people being ignored and they won't stand for that type of second rate treatment again.

That's absolutely horrible. Fuck, if everything I had was washed away and I was filled with the same fear as these people, you bet your ass I'd be looting everything I need.

bah this is horrible

Goes to show you that we need to take our fingers outta our asses over here and be able to accept help for once instead of always trying to give help and usually screwing up.
