Calling all tech heads! MP3 Utility related question...

Does anyone know if there is a piece of software which I can use to lookup and set an ID3 tag on a group of mp3s which are untitled, or have tracknames like 'Track01, Track02', even under the title section of their ID3 tags?

So for example if I have a folder which has an album of mp3s on it, is there a program to download where I can right click and it looks up the meta data for the mp3s, and then sets them?

It's like, you know when you rip a CD with Windows Media Player or a similar CD ripping program, it finds the data off the net for the tracks you're ripping and then modifies their ID3 tags beofre they 'reach' your hard disk so that when you put them onto your mp3 player, you can organise them. Exept I can't find a program that applies this to a group of files that are allready mp3 and are not on a CD.

I know one solution is to burn the desired files onto a CD, and then 're-rip' them so that Windows Media Player can find what it is again, but there must be an easier way! Thanks if you read this and tried to help, I have a feeling it was a confusing post.

i doubt theres a program that can find the infor for you but real player is good for adding tags and changing file names to match the tags.

the problem is there will be endless amounts of tracks that are the same length, or albums with the same amount of tracks, so i doubt there will be one to do what one want.

hopefully i'll be prooved wrong, cause it would be a very handy program

the best thing to do is try and chagne the tags as soon as you download so you dont end up with any amount of tracks that you dont know what there called, what track number it is or wht cd its on

But then in that case how can CD Ripping programs detect what the track are, even if you have burned the CD yourself? It's because the track are in a specific order and are of a specific lenght, which is exactly the same as if you have an album that such a ripper would recognise, but which isn't in the form of the CD, but as a group of mp3 files. I should mentioned that the mp3s do actually have track numbers.

There must be a program? Or am I gonna have to waste some blank CDs and a lot of time...

im not sure the only time thats happened to me is when they have had tags, even then the ripper still had to download info from the cddb database thing

try searching google: mp3 id3 tag editor

or somethin like that....try download.com maybe

rigth hand click o nthe song name in the winamp list and press id3 tag, will open up.

yeah, theHit got confused and thought that I didn't know how to offline edit ID3 tags. I'm talking about downloading meta lookup data automatically for a group of mp3s that are in a certain order and of a certain size.

do it the normal way, goto amazon.com and find the album and cut and paste names.

That's how I normally do it, but the tracks in question are off a 3cd compilation... THe list of tunes is massive and renaming the tag of every one of them is not something I wish to spend a day doing...

well if the cd is "real" then you should be able to wack it in the cd drive and rip it with something like easy cd-da extractor which finds the tags for you

yes, exactly, Windows Media can and does do that with all of my bough CDs, however, this CD is a downloaded torrent, which happens to have left out the tags and also filenames for each track, however the track number has been put into all the tags, as well as the filename. But it isn't a CD, it's a group of mp3s that are on the CDs. Now I could burn it to 3 cds, but that is then a waste of CDs, as I only want to tag the tracks and get them on my Mp3 player...
