EU stands for European Union! Its a collection of 25 European countries that trade together, are governed by common european laws and in the euro zone have the euro!
It matters if it goes tits up coz if we're pushed out then we loose EU subsidies and a lot of trading benefits! Plus it would mean a shit load of changes here.
