I dont know really, but I know what a rap producer does.
They just get the artist(s) to record the accapella of their new record. Then the producer will add a beat and sell it to a record company, who then sell it to stores.

I'm not 100% what a producer does. I think he's the one calling all the shots in regards to how the money and time is spent in the studio...and how he wants the record to sound.
The mixer is the engineer who fucks with those huge boards you see with all the sliders to fade tracks in and out, adding effects to vocals/instruments/etc...basically the guy who takes the raw music and spices it up.

Right, producer pretty much puts the basic beat to the accapella for rap, or for rock, suggests certain small changes in the band's songs or sound (i.e., "Do you think you should do a double chorus here instead of just one?" or, "I think we should change the bass drum for a deeper sound." They can either be nice about it, make suggestions and work with you, or your gonna get an asshole producer who threatens to speak to the label execs about droppin you if you don't agree) and then lets them do their thing arranges the album and sometimes does cover art, then it gets sent to the mixer who adds effects, drop beats, etc. puts all the pretty shit on top yknow?
