can neone explain IDE/ATA/ SCSI interface meaning for hds?

i wanna get anew hard drive, this bloke who knows my pc said i need to get a IDE or EIDE. I went to dabs.com and looked for ide drives and when the list came up some of them said they wqere ATA hard drives.IS ATA the same as IDE or EIDE???

I think ATA and IDE are the same because IDE is just an interface for all optical drives. SCSI is a 10 000 RPM hard drive. Beyond that I don't care to concern myself with anything more.
Usually you need an expensive motherboard to use SATA hard drives.

IDE and SATA are COMPLETELY different things, SATA is much faster than IDE.

Most pc's are IDE, newer PC's have both IDE and SATA interfaces, make sure you know if your motherboard has SATA onboard before you buy that type of drive.

SATA drives have much smaller cables. You know those cables that hook from your CD ROM drive to your motherboard? They're wide and are called ribbon cables. The SATA drives have a cable connection a bit thicker than the width of a cigarette.
