windows media player license cracking

ok so a friend of mine has been downloading some movies and music videos of the internet in WMV (windows media video) and when he comes to play them a pop up box comes up saying he needs to aquire a license.

so what im asking is does anybody have some software that can crack individual files or windows media player itself

Why would anyone in their right mind use Windows Media Player? Not only is it total crap but just using it (just like any other Microsoft product) will probably get your computer hacked.

maybe not hacked... but windows media player is a pile of shit..soon as i got my system i deleted it and installed winamp and Divx player

or if its cause he has a trail version or somthing of windows media player or somthing along the lines of that.. try going to

he has the latest standard winamp and divX (not a divX player just the codecs) but winamp doesnt seem to want to play them and real player also asks for the license. winamp is his preferred but he used WMP coz it was a WMV file

sigh... Its not WMP that needs the license. Its the file you're trying to play. in order to 'prevent copyright infringement' companies have been putting their own material on the internet free to download. Thing is you need to register for a license for that specific file. I would reccomend not doing it, otherwise you could have the MCAA or the RIAA on your ass

yeah he knew it was the file, just wondered if there was anything he could do to the player to make it ignore it.

Winamp 5 will play WMV files. Does he have it? Alot of people are still using Winamp 2.x.
On the off-chance it might work, try setting your location to Canada in Windows. We don't have laws against sharing music up here and maybe they added that into the license thing on your files.
Go Control Panel -> Regional & Language Settings and at the bottom there's a drop down box. Set it to Canada and see if it works.

Also Stan, Windows Media Player is provided free. The license he's looking for has nothing to do with serial numbers.

Ive never heard of any way at all to bypass a license request. A couple of people I know downloaded the license anyway, and nothing happened to them (i think) So if the movie is REALLY worth watching, go for it
