outdoor temps for growing in the USA
Hi y'all, this is my very first time in here as a member.
I am starting some plants (again), I have 2 that are already about 1 inch tall and waiting for the rest to germinate useing the wet paper towel method. The daytime temps get up to about 83*F and at night it is about 63*F.
i have my babies in flower pots. Can I keep them outdoors as long as there is no freeze? I realize that eventually I will have to bring them in,but I want to leave them outdoors for as long as possible. What is the coldest temperature maryjane can handle outside?
Help please
thanks

You don't want them to freeze.
See, the thing with weed is that they plants have to get the right amount of light hours. In Canada , weed is usaully planted in Late MAy, or early June. As soon as there is no more frost at night. I frost will kill the babies pretty quick. At this time of the year, you have the maximum daylight hours. Say the sun might shine from 7 am to 8 pm.....you've got 13 or so daylight hours, then you'll have like 11 or so of night hours. It is important to have as much daylight as possible, to encourage the best growth. Then come August, the days begin to get shorter. THe sun rises later and sets early. THis cutdownof sunfilled hours, will kick your plant into its flowering cycle. ( Like when you grow hydroponically, you may have your plants running on a 24 hour light system, then when you are ready for flowering you would turn down the light to like 12 hours on 12 hours off. It is the darkness that makes your plant flower. You can keep a plant pretty much for forever if you keep a light on it 24/7. Oudoor palnts grow slower than indoor because you cannot give the the 24 hour light option.
How long will it stay this warm in GA? Will it freeze at night soon? And approximately how many daylight and how mant night hours are there at this time of the year?? It must be the same as here....what timezone is GA?? Must be like Quebec I think. you're pretty much south of me. The thing is that if they dont get enoug hl ighr from the start, they wont do well. I need to know when it usually freezes down there (that is if it does!) to help you better.
You also have to get your plants on a light cycle when you get them indoors. It's kinda tricky. It'll depend on how many hours they get outside.
Here, in Canada, by November its prety much dark at 5 pm or so....what about down there?

Thanks for for the responce weedguru.
Here in Georgia USA. the sun in Sept. comes up around 7am and sets around 8pm. I am in the Eastern Standard Time zone. The first frost we will most likely be in late October or early Nov.
Let me ask you this ....Can I do both, let my babies get outdoor light and then bring them in at night to put under a light? Or would it be best to just leave them indoors at all time? Are you saying that 24 hour light will make them grow faster? I have a lot to learn and there are so many things to understand. I am growing for personal use and only want about 5 or 6 plants. I own my house and have a small closet to grow them in.
I just have to be sure that my son wont find them and tell all his budies that his mom is growing weed! He knows I smoke and he does too. But he is so much more a pot head than I am! lol.

Well loopyady, we're in the same boat....I have kids too!! Mind you, I don't grow at home but anyways...
You can use both indoor and outdoor light, but its not exactkly the best thing to do. It's kinda tricky. Seeing that you are an adult and own a house indoor growing would be much better for ya. Certainly at this time of the year too. I'd advise you to set it up entirely in the house.
Where's this closet at? In your room? Best thing would be to Lock the room its in and lock the closet itself if you have too. What are the approximatite dimensions of this closet? You can rig it up with a fan/air intake outake system quite easily. I can give u more details on that later.
See, right now you don't have enought time left before frost to grow your plants outdoors. A normal outdoor season is like 3-4 months. You Could put them outside in the day, and in and night but there really is no point. You risk damaging the plant more than anything. One way or another you're gonna have to rig up an indoor lighting system, so you may as well just use it all the time.
Ys 24 hours of constant light does make the plant grow much faster. YOu can leave the light on for 24hrs right up intil the time you want to kick the plant into flowering. YOu can decide when that is. AS long as the plant is recieving 24 hour light, it will never bud. IT will remain in the vegetative state.
