Happy 18th Birthday Danny

Today Dan would have turned 18. I wrote him a letter and had it laminated. It sucks to know your loved one has been outside all these months and if you want to write them a letter you laminate it instaed of putting it in the mail. I took my mom to the site of the cliffs, her first time. It's a different season and everything is dying. This morning! We were woken up by my brother! Rather, one of his best friends, Brandon and a buddy, who we never met ran out of gas about a mile down the road. They walked past at least 50 houses before knocking on our door to use the phone. He was wearing a Kennewick High football sweatshirt and we were like "Did you know Dan, we're his family" and they just went all ashen. Why did they knock on our door? Especially when we drove them back to where they broke down... there were so many houses and our blinds weren't even open yet. It was too much of a coincidence - they walked straight to our house through an entire neighboorhood, and couldn't explain why. On Dan's birthday. I think he knew it would be a hard day for us and so he sent us a message.

The strange thing was, we went to see two of the houses I spent my childhood in with Dan, since they were en route to the cliffs but in different towns. The first one was the haunted 7 bedroom that was all spiderwebby and in my memories my Dad's huge scrapyard was the main feature of the place. My jaw just about dropped - the house had been completely refurbished, and I mean nice.... it had acres and acres of yard, they tore out the sidewalk, driveway, my pet cemetary and treehouse, and it looked so classy. It wasn't at all the nightmare it once was. I bet they gutted it and redid the depressing dark walls too. At the other house, when we got there, the house was no longer there! The whole property, the acres of lawn we had planted and tended, the fences, everything was trashed and it was all 10 foot high weeds and stickers. instead of our home was a pink fabricated one. It looked like some backwoods tweaker shit. The transformation of both houses where Dan and I spent time growing up was shocking. Seeing the cliffs again was strange... the birds like my brother's cross so I cleaned it as best I could. Of course they like it, overlooking the huge cold river. I knew Dan would want me to smoke all day. We bought a party for his gravestone, fall flowers, candles, baloons.... and I guess his group of friends is going there tonight, to smoke and drink in his honor, and invited me...

So I felt it was a heavy day and wanted to share..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRO!!!!
