Thank you so much, Stu. Me and mom just read that, a few times. We think it is very special. We also think God is giving us little things like that to help us go on. It's nice to know hundreds of people are touched by Dan's legacy. Things like people remembering him, the posts he made here and the pictures in his phone help us to smile and love his memory.Herbal $tu wrote:Caro I sit here with nothing else but a tear,
rolling down my face with elegant grace,
I pray for your brother as I do my departed neighbor,
Who also crashed down without any warning sound.
I hope your heart can handle this pain,
Although I understand you will never be the same,
Smile and keep a wish I'm sure he had,
That you'll live you life happy no time to be sad.
My mind and my soul I pray,
Is helping you carry this burden in some way.
I am here for you all of the time,
Just so you know my heart wrote this rhyme.
Thank you to everyone who has responded and kept my family and me in your thoughts.
Five days later, and the pain still comes in crushing waves, all day long, and all night. You know I've been smoking. The thought for the day is this. My parents are old. I must survive both of them. They only have a few more decades at the most before they go to the same place as Dan. I have to live the rest of my life without him. This is the sharpest he will ever be in my mind. His scent will fade from his pillow, the case of which I will never wash. I love to inhale the pillow scent. It's a sad comfort the way looking at a picture of a beautiful young apparently naked girl smiling in warm light at him in one of the last pictures he took is a happy comfort. It was just ... within a week ago I spoke to him, heard him say "Hey Cari". I can remember hugging him, skiing with him, working with him, smoking with him, everything, so perfectly. And time will change all that, it will ease my pain and fade his image, with each year that passes and he isn't there. Therefore I embrace the pain, coz he was worth it.

It is a shame to hear of your loss. 5000 miles away and we still shed a tear for you.
I lost my father when i was at a young age, so young that i never really had a father in living memory, only my brothers helped me grow up and thankfully i had and still have 3 of them to help out when i need.
It now pains me to hear that one of my brothers has already lived through his life expentancy, it is a miracle he is still alive today according to the doctors. I dont know how i would cope with him passing away.... I see him as such a strong character, practically immortal knowing what he has survived - Lukemia being just one ordeal
I really dont know what to say now... I suppose its easy to cope when ur young and unaware or being grown up and tottaly aware of somebodys time to come... i suppose either would be more easy to cope with.. than just being hit with it all without any warnings or signs. however we all know you are such a strong person simply for the fact you had the courage to post and talk to us! you will pull through!
As for the beef sandwhich, that is an amazing achievment. Im sure your brother would have been very proud.
I come back to WG to say R.I.P Danny and good luck Caro

I cried for about 5 minutes after I read this for the 3rd time because it brought back familiar pains that I don't want to remember for the life of me. Caro, death doesn't take bribes, so like you said, embrace the pain until it eventually wanes into a distant memory. Things will get easier with time, I promise you that.

I started a thread in the Poems forum to post what I will be writing about him...
I had to write about the experience of being alone with his body.
Writing is good, it helps.

Please don't stop visiting as I want to share pictures of him as soon as I can.
Thank you again, everyone, for commenting and feeling.

Caro, I don't really know what to say, but I just want you to know that we are all thinking about you, and you are not alone. Life has been so unfair to you, I have two younger brothers, and I can't imagine even loosing one of them, but you have to be brave for both of your brothers.
My deepest sympathy

hey caro hope you are doing well. just think back to all of the good times you shared and be thankful that you got to know him and love him and get it back. i never knew my twin sister....she died during birth and i have no recollection of her at all...not even a photograph to remember her by. take it from someone who has missed out on a lot, be thankful that he was part of your life no matter how short your time together was.....anyway thats my little bit, hope to talk to you soon.
