New Year Resolutions and Revolutions...

Post by weedguru_animal »

Never before have I managed to follow through on any new resolutions, likely due to my, some would say spastic (i prefer :fanatical) desire to roll with the waves of my own making and only flap my flippers in defiance at the tides and currents which other's are responsible for. This time is going to be different, in that the main areas I need to work on, are too worriesome to ignore for much longer, as the worry is peeking into an abyss of self loathing...Lacking any openly wise loved ones close by, part of my day to day existence, makes it harder for me to remember to put effort into not only behaving properly but also looking after myself. They are of course intertwined, but some of us...perhaps simply the lazy, or the prone to a perceived inertial pull always back into a slump of mind, body, spirit and heart...need direction, from people we respect and love. I fall into this category. And these are my resolutions:

Sitting here now, shirtless, my belly is definitely 3 times the size of this time last year. A dash of gluttony, supported by a bizarre diet of ultra healthy and pure fat. Perhaps the daily vodka and diet coke binges are somewhat to blame??? Whatever the cause, I need to curb the enthusiasm of my innards to transform my midriff into a shape more suitable for a bear who has just gorged himself on 20 lambs. If the rest of me was bear like in shape and fierceness, I would not be concerned, but the truth is...I have chicken legs, delicate feet and a very slim upper torso. In short, I am developing the silhouette of a bell pepper. No more fat meals, so fuck you, hungry jack. And equally importantly, the timing and size of my meals must be altered drastically. Eating a feast, however healthy, at midnight, is clearly making matters worse...so...number 1: lose the pregnancy look.

(2)Drinking...its a disease of sorts, which I have trained myself to live with. But that is no excuse or justification for consuming between half and two thirds of a bottle of smirnoff every night, bar the odd break when i substitute spirits for a steady intoxication of THC. If I wish to improve in ANY areas of existence, any such constructive change is dependent on a reduction in vodka.

The old favourite...REMEMBERING THAT LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS. Always been a problem for me. That damn demand to react, rather than absorb, ponder, then move forward in the best way. Its come back to haunt me rather too often over these last 6 months. And unsurprisingly, it causes me problems. Both at home and work. Again, this is another issue which is exxagerated in its damage, by the vodka. Because the drink lessens my reasoning capacity, and encourages instincts and feelings to rule the roost. Quiet down, observe more, THINK before reacting. (3)

Krav Maga (4)...for so many years now I have wanted to turn myself into a ninja, or at least into a weapon of sorts. As I have a need to trim down in general, gain some physical health, and have found a krav maga club not far from my house, reasonably priced, perfect for beginners and weaklings, I really have no excuse. One or two nights a week of learning to kill, quickly and efficiently, would be time when I can't drink, and also time when i have to LISTEN, rather than use the scene as a platform to boom out my voice and ego. Discipline, health, ninja...sounds perfect.

My writing ambitions have become more dream than viable aspiration in recent times. And that MUST change. For its one area which I have shown a fair amount of promise in, sporadically over the last few years. One area in which when I do excel, even briefly, that I feel brilliant and useful. So let's aim for a book this year...(5)

Women (6)...After a period of 11 years in which I was involved in 3 long term relationships, this last 15 months have seen me change beds 12 times. None of which has brought me any joy other than the fleeting sexual sensations, which always fade soon after their sparks appear. Its simply not joy for me to devour the succulence of a woman who looks and tastes delicious, but in the mind, or heart, she seems an irritation. And vice versa...Women I connect with in the mind and heart, if their flesh and general looks doesn't affect me strongly, then I need to confrim them as friends, NOT charm my way between their thighs, then abruptly cast them and their thighs aside, often for ridiculous reasons. To remedy what I see as now consistent ailments, in terms of my lechery, I am going to make a major effort to get to know women before getting to know their most intimate physical regions. I have been heading into that battle, first seeking the joy of their loins, with hardly any regard for truly who they are in more meaningful ways. Alcohol and Women I have always adored, but I have been with a fair few women since the vicious demise of my last proper relationship, and...none of them I have adored.

There are others, but for now, these seem like definite stepping stones towards a happier, more productive and lengthier life.

what about you folks????

yeah I'm pretty content with myself right now.. I've changed a whole lot in the past few years and am continuing to do so for the better, so mine would just be...

I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing, but put more action in to my ideas

Like.. if I say I want to go to a different state to snowboard.. instead of just saying it, I'll prepare myself to actually do it

No more wishing, just making dreams come true

I'm with you on this one. I've slackened up on my writing over the last 2 years or so and this is one of the changes i'm going to make. Not exactly for new year, but just a change i'm going to make. I'm 23 now and i'm getting too old to be stood on the sidelines.

Sort out my driving licence and shit ready for the summer. I haven't really needed it over the last 5 years or so, but i really will need it this year. I don't need to worry about actually buying a car and sorting the insurance out because the money for that has already been taken care of thankfully.

Only go out drinking on special occasions. No more weekend wrecking sessions.

Go skating more often, for multiple reasons. For my health, for the feeling of landing a trick you've never landed before (especially when you've ruined your body trying to land it.), the adreniline rushes, getting together with all my friends all the time. It's really good fun.

Live more honourably. I'm not saying i've been a cunt with other people on a major scale, or even on a minimal scale, but i need to honour my own convictions and promises to myself.

I don't just wish a prosperous new year, but a prosperous life to you all, however you wish to perceive it.
Death is the only certainty. EVERYTHING else is variable.

Get off tobacco and get to the gym.

Wait for shit to hit the fan and join in with the rioting which should be happening soon here.

Also leave Britain shortly after said rioting.

Save up money.

Visit Animal and Scarf and Teb in Australia starting from June/July.
Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

if you resolve to make a change, its a resolution...regardless of the traditional suggestion of New Year Resolutions, I see it as merely an opportunity to aim to change the new year to make it better than the last...

I have never made a New Year's resolution because I don't really believe you need a specific day to make a change in your life or the lives of others.

Although, I am making a promise to myself starting today. I am quitting drinking all soda pop and energy drinks. I've always known that neither beverage is beneficial in any way to the human body, but nothing could make me stop...until the final straw today.

I was eating a sandwich not 2 hours ago when I felt a 'CRUNCH' in an otherwise harmless turkey sandwich. I rummaged around the glop of spitty bread and meat in my mouth to pull out a rotted piece of tooth a little smaller than a marijuana seed. That hasn't been the first time in my life a piece of tooth or filling has broken off while eating. I'm a regular brusher and ocassional flosser, and besides the sugary drinks, my diet isn't too bad...especially calcium-wise.

So that's it. I'm tired of getting fillings and visiting the dentist more than twice a year. I don't want to end up with false teeth. And I'd love to shed about 30-40 pounds (I'm 6'2" and 240lbs). I'm hoping my 1-2 liter a day habit is easier to quit than it seems. Wish me luck, folks! :D
