"mind over matter"

Post by Tac »

this thought just came to me

"mind over matter"

if you think something hard/well/long enough, it will be true

take placebo, for instance

a person takes this pill thinking it will help them, and it does, even though it has no medicinal chemical in it.

if this were to be applied to an entire society, couldnt truth, lies, fact, and fiction all be altered?

couldnt we upset everything known to be fact, if we all wanted to?

Um, yes, haven't you read 1984?
I personally recommend checking oneself for OCD at least once every 5 minutes.

If a society was constantly told things that were untrue, could they become reality? Yes. It's called Earth. What do you think politics and religion do? Our existence is shaped by what we are told, some may be true, some may not. In essence we are all brainwashed into believing the world is or has to be a certain way, when that really is not the case at all.

We are taught that we need certain things and certain social, economic and political structures to survive to the point where most believe it. Consumerism and materialism are excellent examples of people being manipulated into believing what constitutes success in their life, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

If people don't know any better, they will believe whatever you tell them is true because they have no reason to doubt it. Quantum mechanics suggests that perception is the only true reality that exists.

Once upon a time there was a big bang. Well, I say once upon a time... Really it was once upon a pre-time... In the first moment of the existance of time, evidence of the big bang existed however, the singularity itself which "banged", is a physical impossibility.
Anyway, that isn't important. What's really important is that somewhere along the line this thing called matter started to appear amongst all the energy. It would actually appear that the more energy a particle had, the less mass and vice-versa. "E=mc^2", a funny looking Austrian man would one day explain it.
So, whatever, that has nothing to do with the topic... Or does it? Really, I don't know. I'm just typing words now and hoping they string into a sensical argument.
Okay, so there's all this energy and mass and... well, that was pretty much all there was and ever would be. It existed but then something wierd happened. Somehow the energy and mass could be structured in certain ways to create life and then thought and conciousness. Wow! Matter and energy, intricately coded, can creat conciousness. So to then have that concious mind able to control the matter and energy around it... that'd be pretty wierd.
But it is what we do all the time... our mind thinks, "I shall move my arm" and then you move your arm in accordance with your thought. Surely even that is mind over matter. You've shown the concious will to do something and then you've carried it out.
But that doesn't really make any sense at all, if you consider that you're just made up of matter and energy. Everything you do is a result of what came before it. You are trapped in a perpetual fate bubble. Every interaction between energy and mass throught the history of the universe has been dictated by the laws of physics.
However, maybe it is possible to break free from fate. Perhaps pure understanding of what everything is can creat a change in the universal pattern of the universe. Could conciousness be part of the key to achieving a choice? Really, we seem to have a choice but our decision is often inevitable. Is there a way to break free from this? Can I stop the inevitable? Can a perfectly cylindrical object be stopped from rolling down a smooth sixty degree incline in such a manner that defies gravity? Why aren't you answering my questions?
By breaking free from the laws of physics maybe we can achieve something called freedom of choice. Until we are able to defy the laws that created us, we are bound by fate. But if we never achieve that, we can at least make sure we smoke lots of weed, have great sex and leave our mark on the world, right? Just don't fool yourself into thinking you have a choice.

An excellent and well written post. I've been studying quantum mechanics and meditation very intensely recently...it's such a life changing experience when you have reached your boundless sky-like nature of mind, release clinging to perceptions and this illusory dream-like thing we call life, feel the perception and awareness of now that is constantly there even when all the identities and all the worlds and all the stories have disappeared...yes, if you want something bad enough, it can become reality, simply based on the drive of desire. The energy you put forth molds your universe, every single decision you make alters existence and is pregnant with consequences. Hence, if you wish to change something or attain something, you will make efforts to do so, thus changing the world around you, and making it a reality.

yes mind over matter, the mind has been proven to be able to do more than its generally thought possible to do, all you have to do is tap it. i'm into meditation, it realli helps, from stress, to sickness, tiredness, it can even help to adapt and tolerate the cold and hot months, all with the right mind set and control.
perception - we essentuall live in the matrix. now thats not to say we are all hooked up in some videogame like reality made by machines, but it is true that our world is merely just the interpretation of electrical/chemical signals by our brains. whatever cannot be interpreted either beyond our sences or drastically against our accepted reality are omitted by our brains. for example hawks' eyes are more atune than our own, meaning they can actually view a wider spectrum of colours than we can. but with advancements in science, more of our world is coming into the light, for example heat, yes we can feel it, but now we can see it with the aid of inverred capable divices.
reality therefore is a combination and it therefore varies for everyone. it is a combination of whats there, how its percieved, and the abbility for us to take in as much as we can.
