i would do about 10 in 1 patch then a 10 in another.
i would advise you germinate the seeds at home for a week or 2 then plant them outside.

"i would advise you germinate the seeds at home for a week or 2 " what does germinate mean?

it means to put them in a paper towel or something else then wet them and let em' sit in there for a week or two.

Starts then growing or ready to grow.
They will do it in the dirt, but will be very sensitive.

No, no, no, no, no! That would drown your seeds!
Take a small plate, put a thick square wad of folded paper towel on it. On top of that place your seeds. Then cover them with a thin layer of papertowel and wet the whole package with a little bit of water until it is moist to the touch. DO NOT submerge the whole thing in water, use just enough to moisten it. Place the plate in a dark, cool place an check it often to keep it moist. What this will do is that it will stimulate the seeds to "hatch" and make the root begin to grow. Once a seed has grown a small root, plant it at a depth equal to the lenght of the seed in fertilized soil root first.

^ Sorry, but that's not true!
You most certainly can use the cup of water method to germinate, in fact, I have found it to be the best method
Half fill a mug with room temperature water. Place the seeds in the cup. The seeds will float initially. Now put it in a warm and dark place (like on top of a water heater, or on your pc) Put a cover over the cup to keep light out. The seed does not need or like any light yet, but likes everything warm.
Tips on germinating pot seeds.Keeping a temperature of between 75° to 85° Fahrenheit is excellent for starting seeds.
The seed sinks when it absorbs water (about 24 hours) and this is a sign that you have a viable seed. (Floaters usually never germinate)
In about another 24 hours the seed will crack open and a root will emerge
Doesn't matter which way you plant a seed, it will right itself on it's own.

Yeah I did them both ways, and I've got to say that highers method did have a little better return rate on them. If it's in the paper towel, it has to stay in an enclosed area or else the paper towel will dry up very quickly. Doing it through his way ended up having a faster germination time and higher seed ratio because I think if it's in the paper towel, it's restricting the oxygen flow to them making it take a little longer and a tad bit less effective. Both ways work fairly good though to be honest.
