A shitty night and a confirmed realisation

The story...

So yesterday it snowed like hell. Got 4-5 inches or so in a couple hours. I decided to go smoke and chill with my bud Aaron and his bud (herb). He lives in another neighborhood that gets significantly more snow than i do.

So i started up to his house at... oh, i dunno 3 or something. Got there at about 320. His house is on a steep road that hadnt been plowed, so i considered going up it. I was in an all-wheel drive Subaru Outback 01 with blizzacks (high end snow tires) and despite the snow and incline of the road i decided (stupidly!) in the end to attempt to go up it.

Well, i made it up to his driveway... and then my car slid down the road at the perfect angle so there way no way to move it, but it was blocking the entire road so we had to do something. His parents werent home so we couldnt get their help. So for an hour or an hour and a half or so we did everything we could to get my car unstuck. I was not thinking and i was wayyyyyyy too harsh on the clutch (car is a 5-speed manual) trying to get it unstuck.

Anyhow after that hour or so we got it to slide back down the hill. I didnt feel like dealing with it anymore so i parked it and said "Fuck that shit. I wanna go smoke." since it had been two weeks since i had last smoked really.

So my dad calls about 6 (im hiiiiiiigh) and tells me to come home. I agree and head down to my car. I turned it on and put it into gear and...

it didnt move. The RPMs went up but the car stayed. So in a blazed panic i dreadedly calledmy parents, told them what happened, and they came over. We called AAA and scheduled a towtruck to come get the car. My dad was pissed. My parents went home and left me to stay with the car until the truck was supposed to be there (half hour).

Half hour went by, then the guy called and said he was going to be another half hour at least. I had no music and nothing to do except dread what the fuck i was gonna do. That was the longest hour that i think ive experienced.

My realisation...

During the hour and a half total that i waited for my parents and the towtruck, anywhere between 30 and 50 cars passed me. I decided to see how many people would actually stop to help someone stuck on the side of the road with their flashers on.

And of that 30 to 50 people.... 3 did. 2 middle aged folk and a car of teenagers.

My point...

What the fuck? in any other civilised, developed country any person driving by would have helped. Ive seen it in Canada at the very least. not 5 minutes after someone has trouble on the side of the road multiple people stopped to help. America really is a sad place.

And so now, in the aftermath i get to pay about $900USD for a new clutch.

What a great way to end a week long school break.

Aw sucks...always carry trash bags with you. When your tires get stuck you can throw one under each and spin the wheels, it works trust me. But yeah, I see where you're coming from. People are dicks. One night this Asian guy from Pennsylvania who had the same car as me, his tire blew out and had no money or way to get home. He even offered me stuff he got for his family to help him. But I rejected, and simply gave him my spare tire. Fun times but still, people are dicks.

people are dicks. i once got a flat-tire in the pouring rain. two people stopped. an old dude who didn`t have a phone, and, a car-full of kids, who luckily had phones and gave me a ride. i wasn`t about to get into a car with some old dude alone.

but, yeah, everyone else just fucking drove right by me and pretended not to look! fuckers! [/b]

Subaru clutches suck to do, that's why it was so expensive. That clutch you needed is like a $200 part, but the labor is bound to be somewhere from $500-800 USD.

Blizzaks are such nice tires, I wish I had a set for my Subaru.

Yeah, Subaru's are a bitch to fix. My friend has an STi and I always helped him work on it. Def. need to study the books for it. lol

Well man I come from a place where snow is on the ground more than half the year.... It sucks but when I get stuck I can count on some farmer or other human, stopping and helping me out with their 4x4 truck. What you explained is the fact that everyone else just assumes that someone else will help a person in need. Therefore nothing gets done. The only reason that I would get help out of the snow is because everyone gets stuck 24/7 here because they don't plow roads very often. So when people see others stuck it reminds them of times they've been screwed and how someone helped them out.

Sorry to hear about your troubles though man. I hope you week goes better after that shitty experience.

It's pretty funny. People criticize kids all the time for not caring and being dicks. I would definitely stop and help someone, and I'm glad to hear a group of kids stopped ot help you. I know that if I was with a group of friens from high school in a car and saw someone stuck we'd definitely help...except I'd be able to pull you out with my car. lol

I used to hitchhike to school and then work for like 4 years straight, so I know what it's like.

People suck.

If it makes you feel any better, I live in Canada and I was driving with my parents one time when I was 10 or something. We were stopped on the side of the road for something, but no one stopped to help us for 3 hours. It wasn't a very busy road, but considering one of the guys was a towtruck itself definitely says something.
